The worst is a true expert in one field thinking he can very quickly become an authority in another.

I have a family filled with Drs and Lawyers. They are not all like that but when they have it they can be the worst know it alls.

Even EE's you would think would know better can come charging into a forum full of true (experienced but self taught) battery / off grid power experts

like a bull in a china shop.

Best policy is to spend at least 2-3 weeks googling a given site, reading past threads, figure out who knows their stuff

before ever posting more than an introductory hello.

I was a broadcast engineer in a TV station back when you had to be licensed to do that, and knew my way around electricity and electronics. Every video I’ve seen of Will’s has not only been factually accurate but also very insightful. I’m confident he’s not repeating what he just read about the subject and he seems to disclose his relationships to the companies he reviews. He has lived off grid in an RV as well.

I personally do not hesitate to take his advice and think that’s a fast way to gain some understanding of modern batteries. I’m building a big expedition battery because I don’t feel like paying 3x cost of parts for what I need. His videos convinced me I could pull it off. I’ll post the battery build in a van build thread once I get the project going.

The closest parallel to the task at hand (an electrical system for our house truck) for me, was when I was young and lacked perspective, I competed quite successfully in IASCA car audio competitions-

A bit of a thread drift but I have a new to me boat that has some wiring issues. The speakers are powered by Cat5 cable. I would assume putting in good speaker cable would improve the sound?

Where did you get the info Will makes $500k/year? My quick search shows his net Youtube payday has been under $200k.

It was in a video where he talks about how he makes money- he said he makes $40K a month...

his a teastiment to the fact you dont sell the steak, you sell the sizzle. the world is so messed up.

The guy just opens up batteries given to him making complete worthless claims, have not seen a single thing from him that would pass as a real review, he is someone who reads stuff online then just milks the viewers. I see past his mask & these youtubers are imo disgusting if they are making that kind of money from basically jack.

I know the type of chud you're talking about that (poorly) review portable power stations and crap and love to talk about Jackery. Will isn't that type of chud. I'm not sure what you expect out of a review or where you get the idea that his claims are worthless. He evaluates every part of power stations, capacity tests them, occasionally hacks them open and discusses the internals, quality of connections, etc. He's very thorough in explaining why he does or does not like something and how it could be improved. That's all helpful knowledge and we're just talking about off the shelf solutions. His battery build videos are immensely helpful as are his reviews of various cells he gets. All of that is useful for people craving information as they plan a project. If you're still lost you can always visit his message board.

You sound uninformed, jealous, or are just kind of a wanker.
