its coming

Well I pulled the trigger and thanks to everyone's input I am fairly confident in the purchase. I have a Warn 16.5 coming. It is going to go in an ARB bumper with the IPF light kit. the only snag now is that I have to wait 1 month for the bumper!

It will be worth the wait and just in time for our Moab trip!

Oh, I am keeping the stock cable on there until I need to replace it...then I will go synthetic.

Thanks

Chris

You wont be disappointed! I had one installed on my Government truck. Ive used it a bunch of times to pull out our construction truck and trailer. Great winch.

in transit

Well, no happy easter for me! I went to pick up my bumper on Friday and it was in transit. But that is the least of my worries now. My truck started lurching when decelerating at slow speed, like to a stop...with brakes, no brakes, in gear out of gear, clutch in , clutch out. So I took it to the dealership, (because I have a big ol warranty on the truck) Problem: Ujoint for the rear drive shaft seized. They have to replace the hole rear drive shaft and the ujoints. I thought the ujoints were serviceable, but they are not. So in the meantime (until tuesday when they get the parts) I am driving a red chevy aveo rental. I dont think me ARB bumper and warn winch would look so good on it...

Bumper showed

Well, my bumper showed yesterday. I dont know why it took so long, but whatever. Its here, and I am putting it on this weekend. The winch, the lights and the bumper!
I cant wait. I wonder if it will cause any front end sag?

Cheers

speak aussie?

This install has been a blast and its almost done. I have gotten a kick out of some of the instructions, (yes I read the instructions) and I have found out my Australian is not so good. I forgot that "American" is just a dialect of the english language. Seriously, that has provided some comedy that is getting me through the wiring right now. Funny that the wiring harness has 3 different colored wires than the instructions...I think I figured it out though! Pics coming.

Pic and question

So here is a pic of the bumper with the post...
now I have a question about sag. The front end is sagging and I am trying to figure out how to fix it.
I am guessing the new set up is close to 180lbs over stock. I measured the center of headlights to ground before and after and the difference was 1/2 " but the truck drives way different now and the lights are aiming a bit down (that is an easy fix but the sag)...any ideas?

thanks

New springs should help the sag and bring the handling back to acceptable levels. Sorry, I can't provide you with a specific product as I'm not up on the specifics for a Dodge.
Looks good by the way.

Thanks

thanks for the input. I am not keen on a leveling kit...because i think it could cause squat when my camper is on, but springs are a good idea...something to look into

Thanks

Let me know how those new springs treat you. I found a place about an hour+ away from me Called, Sacramento Springs. According to Kevin, they can re-work my stock springs and get a 1/2" to 1 1/2" more spring rate out of them. Depending on price, I may try this route. I have heard nothing but good things about these folks...any thoughts on re-working the springs? This option has to be better than just correcting the sag with a spacer...

I have a winch question, and yes I have read the current issue of OJ. Great review by the way. My question comes after being stuck in the snow and reading the great review on winches...
Is there a rating or a weight variable I should be looking for on the winches for a 1 ton truck with a cab over camper. After being stuck in snow without a winch I am looking at putting one on my truck.
I had a massive Ponderosa Pine tree 30 feet in front of me that I think I could have used to easily pull myself out with if I had proper recovery gear. I did not even have a shovel with me ): I used a snowshoe to dig out. My bad!
What are you guys running on your 3/4 - 1 ton trucks (or larger) if size / weight of the truck matters...
thanks

WARN 16.5 with a properly rated snatch block. It needs to be at least 33,000 lbs rated. Shuvel(s), snatch straps or recovery straps (2), tree savers (2) again properly rated. Properly rated shakles ect.. Also you should have at least one winch cable weight (ARB makes the best one I have seen so far). I would carry 2 and use both always. I just broke my winch cable recovering one of our 3/4 ton (empty truck) burried in a snow drift. If you dont have a winch cable weight then use jackets and or recovery straps wrapped around the cable. I know you just asked which winch but you need to have all this other saftey gear as well with any winch. Keep everyone out of the reach of the length of cable and then some. A broken cable can cut someone in half! Use the winch weights / shock absorber (thats what they do if a cable does break). It worked on mine and it still went ballistic but not like it would have done! Read your WARN saftey manual. Its a very quick read and can save your life or someone elses. It will also give you the basics in winch operation! Good luck.
