Though not of any real significance, when I did replace all my tires after that particular Baja run, I bought some LT Michelins, because I was so impressed with the beating the worn passenger tires took.

They are not available anymore But I replaced them with Michelin LT XCX/APT, and they have not suffered a puncture in 6 years and thousands of miles of Baja's washboard. They have good mud and sand traction with a fairly aggressive but highway quiet tread. The bad news is they are six years old, and despite having plenty of tread left, the sidewalls are cracked due to UV light, and foolishly using cheap foam tire shine before I knew better.

Nothing that contains petroleum distillates either as a propellant or as part of the product should be put on tires. It dries out the rubber. Unfortunately most tire cleaners and protectants contain them. Most tire manufacturers recommend not using anything.

Here is one that contains no PD's and is highly regarded.

Here is my Roadtrek. I had mine converted to 4x4 with a 4" lift.

Nice rig...I'm jealous! :) From what I gather the Chevy chassis is a lot easier to convert than my old Dodge (not that it's an easy or cheap process, just that there's a known path to get there). I think my best best if I really want 4x4 (and I'm not sure I really do) would be to find a Dodge 4x4 van and use it as a donor.

Thanks for sharing the link as it's always good to see other examples.

Thanks...and absolutely. I've got LT load range E tires on there now. Any suggestions as to brand and/or tread design? Would be nice for the highway manners to still be tolerable but also nice to be able to deal with mud, sand, gravel, or whatever.

I just replaced the OE BFG Long Trails with another set on my F350. I got 75,000 miles out of the original set, including lots of time in Baja and up in Tahoe. There may be better, but those worked pretty well.

Hi Brian,

I do have an update that relates to the project but it took me a different direction than I had originally intended.

I spent a week in early October on vacation in the Roadtrek with my wife Shelley along the Oregon coast. We totally enjoyed that trip and it confirmed our desire to live full time in an RV. With Shelley committed to that goal my ideas about what would be the "perfect" vehicle got modified (that's an understatement:Wow1:).

On October 19th we picked up our new (to us) 1999 Monaco LaPalma 34-foot Class A motorhome. We moved in two days ago and are now living aboard full time (though not traveling full time yet).

I suppose my definition of "expedition" just got changed! :) I think the deal now is that I'll end up towing a Wrangler or Cherokee behind the motorhome for any off pavement adventures. We'll just see how it goes.

There are lockers available for the Chrysler 9.25.

I am going to revive this thread for the moment as I am considering installing an ARB rear locker on a 2000 dodge3500. I was told by a shop in Phoenix it can't be installed on the 9.25 and would need to swap out the rear axle with a Dana60 to make it work. Does this sound accurate?

Thank you

Arb does not make a locker for the 9.25 actually no one does you will have to swap out axles if you want a selectable locker for that axle. However you can buy a detroit locker, detroit true trac posi, lock right, yukon dura grip, and a dana posi for that axle so it is not like there are not options out there for that axle.
