Wrist watches for the adventure-minded?

Garmin Fenix 3 sapphire. I love it, in normal watch mode it lasts a number of weeks. I use it when I workout usually 5 days a week and it lasts me at least about 10 days. I wear it hiking and backpacking to track my routes. There is nothing I dislike about it. Worth every penny.

I wear a Luminox 3050 most days, it survived the Army and 8 years later it's still here; a lot first responders favor them as well. I don't like to rely on a watch that requires I plug it in every few days, that said, I would love one of the new Garmin Fenix 5 watches with built in HR monitors. I have an Omega Speedmaster Professional "Moon Watch" that I wear when I need to be more formal yet not dressy, that is however, IMHO far too much money for an everyday wearer or for beating around in the bush, same goes for a Rolex, but different strokes......

Bingo! About the only time I'll switch out of wearing one of my Rolex's or Omega Speedmaster Professional is when I know I'm going to be doing hard physical labor.

Best watch I have ever owned, and it is one of the brightest gas lamp watches on the market, hence the name "Isobrite", a play on I am so bright.
I was only going to wear it on weekends, but it is tough as nails, and wearing it at work has not tarnished or scratched in once.
And I bang it into stuff quite regularly.

I like the Speedmaster a lot, problem is that it has a poly crystal like the original and it scratches a lot easier than your standard crystal, I tend to wear it casually for that reason as you can only have it polished so many times before it needs to be replaced. I have an original Rolex Milgauss from the early 60's with the lighting bolt second hand, it was my great uncles watch and he gave it to me when I graduated from my under grad, I rarely wear it since it's a family keepsake. I'll likely hand it down to my kid (should I have any) when they graduate from college as well.

You can polish it a life time before it gets thin enough to worry about. I have a Zeno 300 diver that has been polished with Camco 210+ polish two times a month for the last 20 years.

I like the Casio stuff, especially the mid to higher end stuff. The Tough Solar with the automatic time updates (Atomic Time Signal) is a fantastic feature and they work for years without fail. I have one I picked up a few years ago. I actually traded in a near new Seiko Flightmaster for it at a local Seiko shop. I have been happier with the Casio as it is more useful to me and I always worried about scratching up the Seiko. Plus it is more my style.

I really like "smartwatches" but agree that the whole reliance on something that needs to be charged so often is a PITA. I love the Garmin Fenix lineup, and nearly picked one up not so long ago. I have a Galaxy S8+ so the Galaxy Gear 2 Frontier was a good fit, and saved me some $. Great watch, lots of great features, but not really an ExPo watch.

Casio solar, especially the ones with the barometer, temp and compass functions are a winning combo for a smarter watch. For just a good ole watch watch, any of the Seiko, Rolex, Marathon, Momentum watches will be great and last for years!

Hands down the best watch I have ever had is a berrtucci field watch.
Sinple, bullet proof, and you can dress them up or down with bands.

I have never had a watch make it more than 18 months. Mind you, I set my budget around a hundred bucks. Because, well I have better things to spend my money on.
I have been wearing one of their A2 field watches for close to four years every day.
I work as an EMT in " the big city " but life up in the mountains the rest of the time, I am an active skier, snowmobiler, and offroader, and I heat my house with wood all winter. I the summer, I do some work with rafting companies.

AKA. This watch and band are constantly exposed to harsh chemicals for cleaning at work, it suffers through snow mud and extensive manual labor the rest of the time and is constantly dunked in and out of rivers a few months out of the years. I have lost track of how many times I have banged this watch into something. The NATO solid style band holder and watch body are made out of titanium and are dang near unbreakable. The crystal is very hard. It has held up much better then any of the many tough watchs I have owned over the years.

Finally, the bands. I can not tell you how many bands I have been through over the years. With this watch, I am still on the original nylon band. I switched to their rubber version a little while back. they call it tridura. Think very think rubber coated ballistic nylon that short of cutting it with a knife, you can not break. It does not crack or dry rot, or smell bad. They also offer leather bands for those times you want to class it up a bit. They have a number of different watches but I went simple. Time, Date. I mess with it twice a year for day lights savings times and that is about it. They have a three year warranty and a refurbishment program if it breaks out side of that.

I am thinking about steping up to the bigger face field watch with gas tubes when this one dies. if it ever dies.

I know many who have ditched their watches, but not this guy.
Been wearing watches for 55 years.
Got my first Timex Micky Mouse watch when I was around 5 I believe.
Plus I feel naked without one on my wrist.

Ditto, I think I'd walk slightly to the right if I didn't have a watch on my left wrist to balance me out. Every man should have at least one watch along with a wallet/money-clip and a knife.

Who the f-awk needs/wants a cell phone. The second my work day is done, I ditch the f-awker. If you want to drag an electronic cow bell around on your *** all day long, more power to ya.
