WTB; red Scepter fuel cans

As much as I hate to admit, it's not price gouging so much as a driven market. The single's auction started at $65, the 1st set's auction started at $20, the 2nd set's auction started at $50. So as long as they were fair auctions(ie no bump bidding), then it seems as though there is strong demand for them and short supply as we know = prices escalate.

Red is the new black apparently. ;)

Yup. Called capitalism.

No, called greed. I've sold plenty of items that were discontinued for one reason or another and were in high demand. When I didn't want them any more, I sold them to someone who did want and need them, made some money and went on my way. I didn't intentionally gouge the public, whether it was possible or not. As is obvious from other posts on this forum, I think there are plenty of people that would happily pay a fair fixed price for these cans and be grateful to the sellers for them. Instead, the sellers came on the forum and tried to drive people to their auction to see if they could force up the price at a site that they were aware many were looking for the cans. Greed...

No one faults anyone for wanting to make a buck. But as I stated in an earlier post, it would have been plenty profitable for the sellers to double the price they paid for them new (probably $45 or so) and sold them direct for that much ($90 ea). Instead they chose this path... pure greed... nothing more. But as they say... karma does exist... thankfully.

And then there are those that I am aware of that have 50 pairs or more of these cans and they are hoarding them, waiting or slowly releasing them a little at a time in order to intentionally drive up the price. Those bottom-feeders I will expose as they do try to peddle their wares and intentionally gouge people. But I'll wait and see what they end up doing first...

BTW... many thanks to those other sellers that have been very fair with their sales of these cans or anything else. You are appreciated and remembered.

Supply and demand. A lot of sand, OD, green Scepter fuel cans were made, and continue to be made. Red and yellow, not so much.

Personally, I don't see how placing something in an auction can be called gouging. You don't like the price, you don't bid. As for selling somehting here for a price above what you paid for it, what you feel is an acceptable mark-up, someone else could see as gouging and someone else could see as a bad business decision.

Me, I managed to locate one red MFC and one yellow MFC, both used. The exterior of each was in fair-good shape, but the red one was missing a gasket and the flange was broken (hopefully locating a replacement flange soon). Took lots of patience, and paid a small premium for the cans, though NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING like what the new eBay red cans have gone for.

Call it greed, call it capitalism. The fact is if you need to have a red can instead of a standard green, then I don't feel bad that you have to pay 4 times the price for your color demands ;) Your no less greedy in your 'red demand' than the guy selling them no?

I have no issue with the price these cans are fetching, an auction is an auction and to call those participating 'greedy' and 'bottom-feeders' is a joke. Its not like they are auctioning the last batch of baby formula or diabetes medicine, these serve no function but to add to your 4x4 wardrobe and if your wardrobe has to be red... again who's greedy?

Are gold buyers greedy? Are stock buyers greedy? How about the infinite other aspects of business that buy and sell based on speculation? I buy certain Toyota parts based on my anticipation of limited or no availability in the future, am I greedy? Toyota incrementally bumps up their prices and supply diminishes, do you know Toyota sells OEM jerry cans for $300+ each whereas they used to be well under $100 when supply was up. Is Toyota greedy?

Are you saying they have red MFC's or just Scepter MFC's in general?

Thank you for being the watchdog of capitalism lol, I've got a list of others doing the same thing including my nephew with baseball cards, mind keeping an eye on his trading habits too. :ylsmoke:

Since I started the thread as a WTB for a pair of red Scepter's, if anyone with a gracious heart has a pair they'd like to sell me privately for a FAIR price, please PM me. Thank you.
