XJ snorkle delema

I have an 01 Xj and I plan on getting a snorkle here soon. I will not, under any condition remove the factory washer fluid bottle so the way I see it, I have two choices. I can either buy the ARB, modify it to run strait through the fender and use something like the Apollo filter from K&N or I can get the airflow job and run it through the factory airbox.

Has anyone had any experience with the Apollo setup? It would cost more to to this route but I like the looks of the ARB so much better.

TIA

Out of curiosity, since we share the same platform, why are you so attached to the washer fluid bottle and/or it's stock position?

The biggest reason isn't that I like it's position so much as I hate the bottle ARB gives you and the price they charge for it. Another big thing is I like the fact that the factory bottle is recessed into the fender. As you know space under the hood of an XJ is already at a premium.

I too like the looks of the arb much better, but know for a fact that the airflow is probably the better product on the market in several ways:

1. More direct routing to the airbox with less aftermarket hosing to install and restrict airflow
2. Lower price point
3. Ability to accomodate aftermarket flares like bushwackers without
modifying the flares

That said, i'm also planning on installing a non-abs 8.25 chrysler axle and as such, should be able to remove the abs assembly that is in the space that the airflow uses to come through the fender and is the reason the ARB takes such a round-about way to get to the airbox.

I'm not familiar with the Apollo setup. Google find snorkel diving equipment. Do you have a link? (EDIT: NVM - misread your post)

Brian posted everything I know about the ARB vs Airflow. :)

Hmm, if you could run something besides the K&N filter in that I'd probably be all over it.

Yeah, there's always a trade off isn't there.

If figure running that, one of their wraps, and the ARB pre filter on the snorkel it should be ok.

Its a Jeep 4.0 you can pour sand down the intake and it will still run right? :)

If I do the ARB I am going to block off the original tubing where it comes out, go back about four to six inches (I can't remember exactly how far) and run it just like you would an Airflow. Like you, I love the look of the ARB compared to the Airflow but if I go this route it will cost me the extra money for the Apollo. I have a local connection that can get me the ARB for about the same price as the Airflow if I don't get that stupid washer bottle they seem to think is worth an extra $70 bucks.

I have a buddy who is running and ARB who did exactly what I said above.

He seems to think that the design of the Apollo along with the higher intake of a snorkel seems to keep a lot of the dirt and crap out. No matter what brand I use I will be putting a pre-cleaner on top of the snorkel. I also do not trust K&N at all, which is adding to the frustration of trying to decide which way to go.

Maybe I'm missing something...

When I look at this picture

and this picture

I don't see a lot of difference between them. The Airflow has a gentler radius at the windshield root. That'll help air flow better. It's not as angular as the ARB but function over form for this IMO

That K&N Apollo would be a decent pre-filter for the stock air box. I'd look at something like the AEV pre-filter too.
