Yaesu FT- question on separation kit

I picked up a FT-7100m but it didn't have the separation kit. HRO sells the kit for $70, almost as much as I paid for the radio, so no thanks.

I'll be able to mount the radio head without the snap in remote mount, but where can I pick up the extension 6pin telephone-style cable? Radio shack has a 6 conductor cable, but it is wired differently. Is there a cable type or spec number? Do the other FT models (7200,7800,7900,etc) all use the same style cable? Does anyone have one they didn't use and would part with?

The manual doesn't have a part number for the cable alone, and I searched here but didn't see any pertinent info.

thx

If it is the same as my FT-8800 all you need is a connector and 6 pin phone cable. The small cable from the head to the radio will serve as the crossover that you need.

You can see mine in this picture:

You can also pick up the crimper and make your own crossover cable. The cost of the tool , ends and cable is not too bad, but you need to make more than one to make that cost effective.

I just unscrewed the faceplate holder from the front of my ft8700 and milled it flat with a dremmel. I bought the cable and RJ11 ends from Home Depot and crimped them myself. It is a roll cable format I think (ie pin 1 connects up to pin 6 etc)

Just the tips I needed.

I'll pick up the RJ-25 connector & extension cable tomorrow, hopefully that will work.

I removed the faceplate holder and fabricated an aluminum bracket for it. The bracket allowed the holder to sit in place without any modification, so it could be re-installed on the radio at a later time.

Expo to the rescue... once again... Thanks Henry & Lowenbrau.
