Yakima SkyRise RTT

I’m new to this Forum and appreciate all of the information I have been able to gather from the members about the Skyrise. I decided to utilize the Yakima Bedrock system on my Tacoma. I needed a simple solution to be able to install and uninstall the tent on the rack solo and also a small footprint storage solution. Here are a few photos of the result.

I have had the Skyrise for a couple of months now, so far so good (got it from a REI garage sale for a very good price). To mount it on my rack I had to go back to the classic mounts. Got a pair from Tepui and they fit perfectly. Just had to drill new holes into the rail and could use the screws that came with the tent.

Forgot to ask, has anyone found a good way to replace the Velcro straps with buckles? They are useless when there are sleeping bags in the tent and the Velcro is already wore out.

I did the same thing when mounting to my Xsporter bed rack...the bars were too thick for the Yakima clamps. I liked the lower profile mount of the alu rails too.

Some info on strap/buckle conversions on page 31 here:

I found that after posting. Ended up using the SeaToSummit buckles. They work great, make compressing the tent with bedding inside so much easier. Would do that even if the Velcro was still working.

Winter is finally over here in the east. We have tent site reservations at Grayson Highlands State Park on May 31st for our first official Skyrise break-in camping trip. We slept in it in the backyard last fall after the initial truck bed fitment test. Can’t wait to make it official!

We had to postpone our camping trip until 6/17. Too much rain in the mountains from the Subtropical storm this past week. Lost our weekend opportunities now that the parks are busy. Hopefully the weather will stay cool at elevation for the next few weeks.

Did I hear that Grayson Highlands is having some major bear issues? How crazy is that. That much more reason to be on top of the car!

I'm into my second year with mine. About to take it out for a mountain trip from Austin to Oregon for a month. So far so good but I have yet to have it anywhere where I wasn't burning up. Also moving from an Outback to a 4Runner so that will be interesting.IMG_2964.JPG
