As many of us do, I end up in Bear country and I like to keep a clean camp.
So my nice and smelly food products get separated by a good distance from the solid, impenetrable nylon of of my tent. On longer trips, I have the comedy of a few Cylindrical bear cans grouped together a short walk away, often accompanied by a padlocked, Yeti (35 = damn small!) cooler.
I'd like a better setup. I'm looking for a bear rated box, with or without locks, that is more square-ish and stackable similar to what I believe Yeti is promoting with their new line of "Go-Boxes". Now they refer to them as "wild proof design" and protected against "unwanted wilderness" ******? assuming not a stated "Bear Tested" like their locked coolers. I've considered the Yeti 35 that I already have but, it's tiny inside, really tiny.
So I'm looking for suggestions and conversation regarding already on the market boxes that are bear rated for dry foods. I hope that we can keep it to a conversation about equipment.
No, I don't just carry a .44. Yes, I do think it can be an issue. Yes, I have had my food raided by bears on a couple of occasions while doing my best to keep a clean camp with the above techniques as stated above to no avail. I don't want my vehicle's doors, windows, or trunk/boot lid pulled back for a bag of Cliff bars.... seen that too, too. I know they'll get it if they want it, I hope to find an additional deterrent.
