Im really happy with the construction, the weight and the looks of it.
I took it down the road on the truck and I couldnt hear it over the tires at 70 mph. I will have to put it on the jeep and see if it makes noise.

I loaded up 90% of my camping gear, my bike, the dogs and a book in the bikemobile. I decided to go down to the lake and test out my setup.

Then I saw a vehicle I recognized from town that looked kinda stuck.
I drive down there to see if they needed help or a ride out. I got more stuck than they did.
The ground went from sand and dirt to soupy CLAY immediately.

Do you see where the dirt is brown and then it gets a bit darker with some little rocks in it. THAT IS CLAY!!!!!!!!

I tried to shovel out but it was to no avail. The z was sitting on the front skids and the rear axle pumpkin.
The guys who belonged to the old retired forest service jeep brought their old retired forest service F250
with a winch and pulled the jeep and my Z out of the muck.
The dogs had a great time chasing birds and I got a few chapters read.
The worst part was the amount of clay that was bonded to my front and rear suspension.
It took 8$ at the self service wash to get it off!

Ha ha, thats what you get for leaping before you look! :ylsmoke: Next time don't try to pull up beside the jeep that needs rescued. Your truck is starting to look really good now. It is amazing what a few accessories will do. I still think that tires are my best investment so far.

Thats happened to me before at the Blue Mesa, only I was rescueing a Subaru. I saw him drive in and tried to warn him, but he drove right passed me. My Jeep was fine getting around on its own, but once I hooked my stap to him I was resting on my undercarage in no time. Giffered with Triple Cross was called in with his 80's chevy tow truck on 38" Swampers and he got buried to his axles as well. After several hours and another tow truck being call in, all three of us were finaly out. You realy have to be careful on the beach out there this time of year.

Ive been happy with the bfg all terrains so far on snow, dirt and light mud. This goo was too much for the tires.

These have alot of tread left but are a bit old and are slightly sun checked. Duratracs or maybe the new cooper maxx will be next.

My drivers door hinge pins were shot so i decided to replace them. I did the top one two months ago. It helped but the bottom was still worn out. I Did the bottom one today. What a PITA!

My factory original alternator was still charging well but the bearings were shot. So I replaced it. This one is from Napa. Reman with a 3 year warranty. Lets hope it works for awhile.

The stock CS130D 105 amp alternator has a plastic bushing that supports the bearing. Not a good thing when it gets too hot. It is also woefully undersized for anything but the stock systems. Even stock it is maxed beyond capabilities when hot.

When you get the chance check out the local salvage yards for a low mile AD244 alternator. I have been buying them for $50. These were rated at 130A-140A and are a direct bolt in replacement. You will need a belt one inch longer. I like the Gatorback belt part number 4060960
If you need to use an application while searching, I used a 2001 Suburban with the 5.3L and high output alternator. Not Bosch.

If you prefer to buy new the NAPA# 1N-4801 HO , 200 amp alternator did a fair job. In the end the junk yard alternator beat even that one.

If you want details you can read through four pages of testing and experimentation: S-10CREWCAB.NET - Bigger Alternator

Just filled up after a trip to telluride and i got 18.9 mpg with the roof basket loaded, bed loaded and two occupants.

Not bad for a 13 yr old truck with 128k miles.

YES those hingepins suck butt to replace. Those washers are way too easy to crush. And I don't understand your mileage... mines an 03 NOT ZR2 with the 4.3 auto and I get like 16. And it's just me, no dogs, canopy, rack or anything. I'm jealous. And about how much was that canopy if you don't mind my asking.

Glad to hear you are still using the ZR2! Post some pics from your trip, or at least a link. :ylsmoke: I guess I should post up some pics too, not too much new but I have a couple of good pics.

On the highway I usually get 12.5 L/100kms (18.8 us miles per gallon). Then again my blazer is also a 5 speed and I rarely go over 110km/h (70 mph).
