The Josh's M416 Trailer Build

Josh:

Are you going to color match the tub with the toyota?
Wheels too or get matching?

I like the yellow build marks on the hitch bolts to see if the loosen.
Great build, I like the extended tongue just the right length.
Can't wit to see the finished product.

Thanks again,

I plan on painting the trailer the same color code (Toyota 1d4) to match my truck. I received a quote from a local body shop for $800 to do seal, prime, paint and bodywork to match. It seems like a good price and they do great work. I plan on taking it in after I finish the Nerf bars, cap the top rail, build my tailgate and fill the rest of the holes. I think its going to look awesome when all done.

The wheels are what I preciously ran on my truck before I went to Hutchinson double bead locks. I'm just going to paint them black to match, they both are 6 spoke so I like it will look good. Putting Hutchinsons on the trailer IMO would be overkill and pricey at $400 a wheel.

For the hitch mount I had to helicoil one bolt holes so when putting it all back together I just wanted to make sure it stays that way. And it took a lot of measuring to figure out the perfect ride height with allowing the swing aways on my bumper to clear but I nailed it.

Trailer looks great! When I used the POR15, I couldnt believe how thin its consistency was - sure did go a long way!

Im planning on doing a SOA on my trailer this year to try and accommodate some 35's too.

Is there any particular reason you mounted the shock where you did? Only reason I ask, is I dont have any shocks on mine, just springs. Thought about putting some on but not sure where the best place is

I don't want to speak for him but the 416 lower shock mounts are on the spring plate. When you do a spring over its now on top.

I don't run shocks on mine

Josh:

I may be a little biased but the Sierra 4x4 lid and trailer and "official" harbor freight tool box setup looks great.

Of course it is hard to improve on perfection!!!

Now you just need my "match my Jeep" bicycle carrier bumper!!!

Haha thanks!

I have a few Q's for you. What did you do to your top rail to match up the lid to? I was thinking of doing a "C" channel around the top to match up to the up.

What do you have mounted up on the rear driver side of the trailer, another 10lb propane?

If there is anything you would change or add what would you do?

Oh you did Fab you rear bumper right?

Thanks!

You are correct. The C channel is welded all the way around and I used it to correct minor out of square of the trailer. Matched it to the lid for a good fit.

Yes propane tanks on both sides. They are both 5 lb bottles.

I would redo the gas rotopaxes and move them forward to allow larger fenders but you have already done that.

I would have extended the tongue as you did.

I am going to mount solar panels in the space between lid and tent and then deploy when I get to camp.

Yours looks great.

Hey don, what size c channel did you use around the lip? It appears the lip is about 1" already.

I actually have solar panels and was planning on installing them under the tent

Today I covered a lot of ground with my trailer Now that my 4runner is getting some Fab work down at a buddys shop I didn't have that as a distraction.

I did some dent removal and then I just couldn't help but start on my tailgate mod. Everything is just tacked now and I still want to add a few more braces inside the structure to stiffen up the tailgate before final welding. I made the sides wide enough to house the oval brake lights in the upper corners.

Overall I had a lot of fun and glad that I finally started on it. I'm waiting on my c channel from my local metal shop to clean up the top lip.

Sorry for the delay but the trailer was out touring TX with my son and his girlfriend. Angle iron(not C channel) is 1" and is on the outside.

For nerf bars and fenders my original plan was too connect them but when I visiting sierra 4x4 to pick up my lid I saw a design with the same fenders and round tube Nerf bars and they weren't connected and it looked awesome so I decided to go that route. So instead of it looking like some long fenders there will be a small gap in the front and back and it seperates them and kinda shows them off as more of "slider steps" I still have some grinding to do but they are coming along great. I finished the other side today and started plating the driver side top.
