Your tires look identical to some that I had. I've run the Cooper Discovery AT2's on 2 different rigs. The first was a 98 Silverado ext cab in a 265/75R16 flavor. I got well over 50,000 miles with them which included highway & city, towing a 22' camper, towing a 16' car trailer (w/ vehicles on it) and a lot of 2-tracks/logging roads and such in Northern Maine with no hiccups. When I sold the truck there was still oodles of even tread left. No cupping what-so-ever. I liked them so much that I purchased them for my 02 Durango in a 245/75R16 size. Loved those as well, however we recently sold the Durango so reviews are slightly less with it. However both vehicles performed flawlessly during the Maine winters of snow & ice.

You'll enjoy those tires

I guess it depends on how you use/wheel your XJ. But having gone wheeling with the stock BFG Rubi tires (32x10.5), then swapping out to a 33x13.5 Irok, I've managed to get to so many different places. Now that's an extreme difference. But even the BFGs vs my old Nokian MTs (33x12.5) allowed me to make it up trails that my buddy in an identical rig couldn't (stock BFGs). Especially in snow and loose dirt/rocks, where I couldn't before. It's not the height that's helping (that whole 1/2 inch), but the fact that it's wider that distributes the weight better, that allows me to go that little bit further.

Now if this is primarily a highway vehicle that never sees gravel, then go with the narrow one. But if you do occasionally wheel it, or want that more aggressive look, then grab the wider one.

Wider tires are much better for flotation (deep snow, mud or sand) for everything else a narrower tire provides a higher contact pressure (same vehicle weight, less surface area). This will provide more traction.

Looks wise its up to the user, but I don't like the verly wide tire look. Run what ya like and get out there!

There's a lot more than just deep snow, mud or sand. Almost any trail with a crappy surface, and a wider tire will help keep the vehicle from digging in.

Wider of those two isn't even really all that wide. Both are kind of odd sizes, but I hope you went wide as well.

I like the progess, well done.

Quick question, and forgive me if I missed it, but which rear axle do you have? Looks to be a Dana 35 from the photos but I cannot be certain.

I'm looking at the same OME set-up for my '01 which has the NP242 and Dana 35 and I'm hoping to avoid vibes with a simular TC drop while dodging the SYE due to cost in the short run.

Oh, and thanks for being my first.....

Well I went with the skinnies and they look great. Here are a few quick pictures I snapped while it was raining. Hopefully I can get some better pictures tomorrow/this weekend.

You can see the tread good here. Just enough side lug to show it's not a normal street tire.

Inset from the fender a little to much for my liking. Will most likely get some spacers down the road.

Little side shot. Again just aggressive enough on the side for my liking. Not over the top.

One of my fav shots from head on. Really shows how skinny these are!

Hey El-Jeep,

Thanks for the comment!

I have pretty much the same set up as you for running gear, rear 35, np242 tc.

Really the 35 will be plenty as I won't go much bigger then this on this jeep. It might see some 235 85s but then as you say I'd have to do the SYE and it's just not worth it in my opinion.

I absolutely love my lift and the options I got on it. Perfect amount of lift. Runs great, no vibes. A little harsh when fully unloaded but I pretty much always have gear in the back or my dog. I highly suggest you go for the OME. If you go back In the thread I believe I posted part numbers of what I bought.

Good luck on your jeep! You should post some pictures up.

Ps. I'm glad you chose my thread for your first post!

Also of note. Got a sweet deal on some used rugged ridge tow hooks and bracketry so I will be picking that up Saturday night. Saturday morning she's getting an oil change and I will under spray it myself to prep for the salty winters we get here in Ontario.
