Series 109 Birthday present now Autumnal Equinox present

Series front (of course).

Cooling needs to be worked out.

Blueboy used an electric fan on the largest radiator you could stick between the front clip and the engine.

Even in sitting traffic the engine stayed ok albeit at the upper temp range.

Under load off highway never a problem.

Would you by chance have any photos of the radiator and fan mounted? I'm trying to get an idea how much space you had to work with?

No pics yet click on the link Mr. Barrows posted. You will get an idea of the space. It is tight however enough for the rad and cooling fan.

I spent time looking at them but con't see how much room they had to work with or if ECR added a fan shroud.

I can tell you that there was no fan shroud.

The radiator sat on a stainless steel support and the fan was mounted directly to the front of the rad.

So the fan was between the front grill and the radiator.

Two schools of thought on the fan operation.

Mr. Smith (ECR) wanted the fan on all the time which I ran for about 2 years and then the fan went kaput.

Installed another one the same way and it lasted for another 2 years.

No doubt having the fan operation all the time is the most conservative for cooling which is why he did it that way.

However on the third fan I wired it to operate according to water temperature so in the mornings it was off and while on the highway it was usually off.

That set-up I think was better as long as you keep your eye on the temp gauge and don't just assume everything is fine.

In any case, for all the time I owned Blueboy the engine never overheated in many different driving situations including being stopped on Interstates due to construction.

The engine stayed cool, yet, the occupants including our 2 Labs always didn't!

I was hoping to return the front clip back to original 65 series sheet metal since I am going to replace the frame now but I don't want to add a constent state of concern over engine temp control.
Anyway made the decision to go coiler using either D1 or RRC LWB frame will decide this week. looks like the birthday present is now an anniversary present :coffee:

The original front clip was used on Blueboy which was '67 109 SIIa. So would think that aspect would still work for you.

Think you will enjoy the various suspension options with a coiler set-up.

Regarding the cooling, I had more problems with my Rangie with cooling which had the typical engine run viscous fan with shroud than Blueboy ever had with the electric fan.

With any Rover I've owned, one is constantly listening and monitoring what is going on with the beast and engine temp just being one aspect.

Best of luck with your project.

Feel you'll like the Series front look especially over time.

Seems to be the right way to go, I am actually considering doing the front like Mercedesrover did on his two builds.
this "little" project is going from a birthday to anniversary now autumnal equinox present

The RRC seats were installed by the PO. I am replacing them with D110 rear low back seats.
As you can see the supporting bracket needs additional structure and a redo on the welds. Also there is not a lot of leg room, to use RRC seats and gain leg room you would need to modify the wheel wells.

Can you send me some pictures of the range seats and how the rear is mounted?
