I can tell you that there was no fan shroud.
The radiator sat on a stainless steel support and the fan was mounted directly to the front of the rad.
So the fan was between the front grill and the radiator.
Two schools of thought on the fan operation.
Mr. Smith (ECR) wanted the fan on all the time which I ran for about 2 years and then the fan went kaput.
Installed another one the same way and it lasted for another 2 years.
No doubt having the fan operation all the time is the most conservative for cooling which is why he did it that way.
However on the third fan I wired it to operate according to water temperature so in the mornings it was off and while on the highway it was usually off.
That set-up I think was better as long as you keep your eye on the temp gauge and don't just assume everything is fine.
In any case, for all the time I owned Blueboy the engine never overheated in many different driving situations including being stopped on Interstates due to construction.
The engine stayed cool, yet, the occupants including our 2 Labs always didn't!
