Help Me On My Trailer Solar Setup

Okay, I agree a 24 volt panel is not a great choice but I was going by the 80 watt panel that was offered up by the OP on pages 3 & 4 that tops out at 21 volts.

Manufacturer: Solar Cynergy
Cells: Q-Cells
Max Power: 80 W
Open Circuit Voltage (Voc): 21.0V
Short Circuit Current (Isc): 5.36A
Optimum Operating Current (Imp): 4.65A
Optimum Operating Volatage (Vmp): 17.0V

Dimensions (inches): 33.35 x 25.97 x 1.33

Yeah that one would much better-suited for a PWM unit on a 12V system. Just is a bit small though IMO (which I mentioned in post #41).

Deplorable
In SoCal deserts we have months of freezing cold temps and clear sunshine that are great for solar ops!

So I've noticed

Excelsior!
Not so rare after all :sombrero: These are just from the last 6 years of the trailer being around. 11 years with the 4Runner and overall 50 years of camping in SoCal deserts.

I did not! thanks for sharing. I actually just received my 80 watt panel along with some other goodies. Hopefully will be diving into the build this week. All i really need is my battery. I am pretty sure i have everything else! Trying to look for a 100ah for around 100 bucks

I don't have a costco card? My dad does at home but he's 4000 miles away haha. I don't think they even have costco's in PA? If they do I've never seen one by my college. I was looking at some of those group 27 batteries online but cant find one that is 100 ah. Do you know of any decent batteries under $120 that are 100 ah ?

That battery you linked is 6 volt. I don't know the difference. It doesn't need to be 100ah just what I've been reading just want something that will be sufficient for what i am doing.

Seems a lot of batteries have dropped a bit in their Ah ratings since 15-20 years ago. Many grp-27 ones are still in the 85-95Ah range though, which IMO isn't very significant (Costco's is 95Ah).

The Deka Marine Master Maintenance-Free, and Delco Voyager are a couple others you could look at (Deka should be a little higher quality). Some swear by Walmart's deep cycle unit also (if it lasts at least 3-4 years, you cannot beat it for the price).

Golf cart batteries are typically used two-in-series. This makes 12V, though two of them together is slightly more than double the battery of a single grp-27, both in total size & weight (not sure if you have the room for that).
