How to kill an XJ in one easy step!

I left it on the charger for about 90 minutes last night but that wasn't long enough, so I put it back on the charger all night and will try it as soon as I get home from work this evening.

I'm getting pretty excited to get back in the drivers seat. I'm kind of curious how much more heat and noise there will be without carpet in it. I did the Herculiner on Saturday because so far for the last couple weeks that was the only day we had when it wasn't raining. The liner turned out pretty good, but I'm not much of a fan of gloss black so I'm hoping that will fade in time. After it starts I need to reassemble all the plastic parts of the interior and put the seats back in then I can take it for a short spin.

I imagine if you tried that same creek crossing now your Jeep would get swept away!!!
Parts of southern Alberta have also seen some VERY heavy rainfalls in the last week or so.

It probably would, the creek is even higher now than it was that day. We've been pretty steady at about an inch of rain a day for about 12 out of the last 14 days. All that carpet and stuff is heavy too, the top of my xj use to be right at eye level on me and now with everything removed it sits a little bit higher.

I had been hoping to do a Detours tire carrier and a Logans front bumper this summer but I think this whole thing pretty much blew those funds out of the water so to speak, kind of a bummer.

So, did you have water in your transmission? If yes, just plan on replacing it now. Ask me how I know. :(

When I drained it everything looked fine but I haven't driven it yet. If I do have to replace it I might think about doing an AX15 instead of an automatic.

You'll probably find it quite hot inside without the carpet on the transmission tunnel. The AW4 makes quite a bit of heat (like all automatics).

You could always add the vinyl flooring over top for a bit of protection from heat and noise.

I looked at heavy duty extra large floor mats at the auto parts store, which was kind of a joke because all they had was thin flimsy ones. I was looking at husky liners in a catalog too but would like to see some in person before I commit to buying them.

I ran a set of the Husky Liners in the front of my TJ after I Durabak'd the inside of the tub. I liked them a lot and plan on getting a set for the WJ.

So are they really thick and heavy duty then? I'd kind of like to just get good ones the first time instead of cheap ones then later on replacing them.

They aren't as thick as some of the heavy rubber mats but they definitely seemed durable. I had mine for about 3 years and they were still in good shape.

I wonder if there is such thing as a silicone floor mat. Silicone is a pretty good heat insulator in cooking utensils and stuff so it ought to do fine as a floor mat.

I have Husky Liners in my XJ. They are great for what they are but I can't see them really helping much in your situation.

I'd suggest real heat shielding under the tunnel. Of course, would be difficult to apply with the trans installed.

Yep.

I've been toying with trying some of those roll-on or paintable heat and noise dissipating coatings. IIRC ceramic stuff. Haven't looked at it recently since I still run a full interior.

Well it still isn't starting, even with spraying starting fluid into the intake manifold while my wife turned it over. So I'm thinking I'll scrounge up some containers and siphon out the gas and replace it with some that I know is good, I think I might have water in my gas tank. Its about 10 gallons or so I'm going to have to get out of there so hopefully that will go well.
