How much winch for a Disco?

Is that US or AUS?
He didn't specify, but the AUD and USD are so close right now it doesn't matter much. If it was AUD it would be $1182 USD.

FYI, I'm checking with him to see if they are available without the pump. Seems silly to pay to ship something from Oz that we can get here readily enough.

If you run one of those pumps you will need a fair sized reservoir and to reduce shock loading, a variable spool valve

There are a number of companies over here who make those adaptors - for a damn sight less

So you mean for around £500 or £600, including the pump?
Yeah, I'd like to know who they are as well. I didn't find any links in my searches of anyone who even had them, other than 4x4winches, which I took to be the Maxidrive.

Heard back.
Without the pump they are $550AUD which includes the GST (10%), so they'd be about $500 = $498US + shipping.
£285 from First Four's website, which I assume includes VAT (20% now). If so that would be about £240 = $378US + shipping.
If the First Four price doesn't include VAT it would be about $450.

Looks like the UK is definitely less.
Now I need to figure out if I want my wife to bring one back for me (and pay the VAT) or have it shipped. Would probably be a wash.
Actually right now I can't afford either, but I'm dreaming.

Me too, for now . . . but you would definitely have one of the coolest and most capable winches on the Rover block (outside of those ultra-cool winching dudes in the UK who make it all possible, that is . . . :)).

me too. I know that this is the ultimate setup, but I can't quite the voice in the back of my head telling me to just go with a Warn 8k or a Superwinch...

If I didn't go for the ultimate, I would go for the Superwinch EP9i others have mentioned above. That's the best value and a hell of a winch for the money. If I wanted to go even less expensive, I would go for the Warn M8000, also a hell of a quality winch for the money.

I really can't complain about my setup, I run it off a dedicated ace pump, but it is still slow...Looking to use the ace pump to drive the hydro boost for the brakes and take some of the stress off the PS pump for the full hydro steering...
