Not sure exactly, it's been a while. So Defenders must have a lot more room down there. How much extra is required?
Here's a Superwinch LT230 hydraulic pump, it'll give you an idea of what you space you need.

Winching with no alternator supply to a battery mostly urban legend. Take an 8274/50 first year of manufacture with the X50 motor (the only warn motor to actually do what it says on the tin). At just below stall it will be drawing well over 400amps - even on no load it's pulling up to 70amps. When you run winches on dieing batteries you kill the motor.
Yeah, that ain't gonna fit in a Disco without significant work to the floorpan. Don't get me wrong, it could be done, but you'll lose the center seat floorspace. You know how the rear floor of a Disco is flat right across? That's why the PTO won't fit.
Northern Tool sells a belt drive hydraulic pump. It has an electric clutch to engage it.First Four does offer a dedicated pump that runs off the engine too. It's set up for a 200/300 Tdi, but could probably be fitted to the V8 somehow.
It was an adapter that let you fit a standard hydraulic pump. That was Mike Findlay. It was a maxidrive product that came through GBR.

So these two winches walk into a disco bar, and the bartender says... oh nevermind.
You two look like you're wound pretty tight. Bad day?So these two winches walk into a disco bar, and the bartender says...

From mrautomotiveThese people took over production of the adapter but it doesn't appear on their web site. I've sent them an email to see if it's still available.
