What's the big difference in a battery isolator, versus starter solenoid?

Ok my goal is to have my camper battery charge off the vehicle alternator, and not have it kill my starter batteries when camping. I picked up a ford starter solenoid for 13 bucks; I priced an isolator for about $140 bucks. The idea is to connect grounds to camper battery and starter battery...

    Trailer Bounce

Glad to hear it was an easy fix ;)

    Trailer Bounce

Is it weighed down as it would be fully loaded? If so sounds like ya need softer springs or shocks.

Flooded and AGM under the same hood?

Can you have a gel battery and flooded battery, or other matches (new vs. old) charging off the same alternator, if you're using a battery isolator? Or does it not matter since it's using the same voltage regulator?

14hr Flight. Which ext. batt. for iPad (orig), iPod touch 4, & Ultrabook (Asus UX31)?

Maybe you could kindly ask somebody in business if you could plug in your ipod for a couple hours, maybe even a flight attendant if your friendly ;)

Tricks to bring back a 'dead' battery?

Also you may have some luck by using a charger with a 'desulfator' circuit, which is what battery stores and scrap yards use to remove sulfur buildup on the plates, to recondition old batteries.

Tricks to bring back a 'dead' battery?

Here's a trick I've used a couple times to bring back a battery previously thought to not be able to be charged. Most battery chargers in the last 10 years have a safety feature that will make it so it will not charge a battery that has a voltage under about 10 volts. If you take a pair of...

What kinda highway MPG's you getting with your full sized rig?

Sure here's a pic. Yeah the wheels are a little 'blingy' but I'll run 'em 'till it's time for new tires, then get something different.

What kinda highway MPG's you getting with your full sized rig?

I can't justify a new turbo to pick up a couple MPG's, but the bearings in mine are starting to whine a little more than usual. When the time comes to get a new one, I'm going to either go the VGT route, or get one with a custom MAP that has it's sweet spot right at 1750 RPMs, which is what I'm...

What kinda highway MPG's you getting with your full sized rig?

Apologies if there's a recent similar thread, couldn't find it with search feature at least. Took a short (100 mile) trip with the truck and camper, and figured I was getting about 13.5 mpg's highway going about 70mph. Just wondering how that compares to others using full sized rigs. My...

    Looking for re-arched springs

Time to throw away the lift blocks under my rear leaf springs, and go for custom arched leaf springs. I weighed the truck today, 8,420lbs, then I pulled forward to where the edge of the scale was just where the cab meets the bed, and it weighed 4,240lbs. This was with 9 gallons of fuel in the...

    Mid-Frame Mounted Winch

Whoops yeah I think a 12-16K LB winch would be more accurate, ha. Ya'll raise good points with accessibility of the cable when deep in the muck/snow. Between the diesel motor, and steel bumper, I'm trying to avoid adding an extra 150lbs of winch to the front, where I'd probably use it most...

    Mid-Frame Mounted Winch

Here's the idea, I'd like to get a 12-16K ton hydraulic winch, and mount it under the body of the truck, in the middle, and have a channel fabbed to the front, and rear of the truck. The idea is to keep the heavy winch low and balanced with the C.G. of the truck, and be able to route the winch...

Looking to update the 70's upholstery

So I'd like to get rid of the 70's colors striped upholstery in my camper and give it a more modern look. I was quoted $350 for labor, and 240 for fabric (8 yards @ 30/yard). This is for the three seat cushions, 2 back cushions, and the bed cushion over the cab. If anyone's done this, is this...

    When to retire a strap?

I've never had a strap that heavy duty, but have worn down a couple lighter duty straps. In the past I just got another (new) strap, and retired the worn one to something much lighter duty, like ATV use, logs, and tying down loads. May be a bit of a waste of a strap that still has a lot of life...
