97 40th Anniv. Locked Mall Rig "What next?"

I don't think that you could go too wrong with OME suspension stuff, 4x4Labs or Slee's stuff. I am not as familiar with the other products. I have Slee Step sliders which I think are a pretty good compromise for protection and convenience. The 4x4Labs rear bumper is wonderful and Luke is a...

97 40th Anniv. Locked Mall Rig "What next?"

I would get all of the mechanical things looked after first. Get all of the hoses, fluids and belts changed. Do all of the tune up sort of things. It will give you an idea of what the vehicle is like and how it feels. I would get some device like a scangauge. See what sort of temperatures...

    White Rim Trail beta needed...(11/23 & 11/24 2007)

I think you could do it in a day without problems. As mentioned in a previous post, it would be less than ideal--there is too much to see. I think of the previous campsites, I have stayed at two and would agree with the choices. Try to see if there is availability--they fill up early.

Running Synthetic in a older high mileage engine?

The only way to tell what will happen is to try it. Not all synthetics are the same. My '94 LC used excessive amounts of most of the Mobil1 oils, but did fine on what was their SUV/truck flavour (I believe it is something like 10/40) and now is their diesel one. I now use Rotella synthetic...

    How to carry more fuel?

I have two of the MAF 24 gallon auxilary tanks and have been impressed. Both of my 80's have 4x4Lab rear bumpers of two slightly different designs. On the '94, we had to make use of the bumper to attach the tank. This caused the tank to sit somewhat lower than it was designed. On my 1997...

    Canyonland's White Rim - gas? (Apr '07)

Last year in My FZJ80, I had no problems with just my standard tank (25 gallons and about 15mpg on highway). I did have an auxilary tank and a Jerry can that were not used. White Rim is gorgeous and it is great that you are spending a good bit of time on it. Take more film or memory cards...

I agree, the price is so close, it better to just order the brand product.

    Prices for Used Land Cruisers

Not allowing a mechanic of your choice to look at it sounds very suspicious. I would run.

    Wide angle lenses?

Another thing to consider, if you decide to go digital, there is a multiplication factor to most digital SLR's. With a factor of 1.5 your 24mm becomes a 36. With a standard 35mm, I think that wide depends on what you want to do with it. I would want to have something at least 17mm or so. The...

    Prices for Used Land Cruisers

I don't think it is too many miles. Having said that if it has been ridden hard and put up wet 10K might be too many. I believe my '94 has about 150K and has no mechanical problems. I did a HG on it about 10K ago as preventive maintenance. Some people think that the estimated lifespan to...

    Prices for Used Land Cruisers

You made the right move by passing on the vehicle. Keep looking and don't get into a rush--very easy to say and hard to do.

    Prices for Used Land Cruisers

I just want to clarify the use of locking differentials. They are useful in rocks, going to Moab, they made some pretty demanding situations look easy. They are also great in slippery situations such as mud. Mine are mostly used in mud and slick sutuations. I agree with Desertdude--if this...

    Prices for Used Land Cruisers

About 2 1/2 years ago, I bought a '94 with 120K for $10K--with the current prices should be less. Your vehicle isn't a steal, but if it is in good shape, better to pay a bit more now and avoid problems. I don't think it is a bad price and if I was in the market and it checked out, would buy...
