Connect lights for a towed TJ Jeep?

We have towed (behind our motor home) our TJ coast to coast twice and New England to Florida many times. We use magnetic lights on top of the stock bumper and a Blue Ox tow bar. This set up has never caused a problem. Be sure to follow the owners manual exactly for recreational towing. The other...

Going in head first: Ham License

You may want to check out HamTestOnline as a study aid for the test. The books are great for learning the theory etc. but HamTest Online got me through the test with 100% in 9 days of study. (I have no affiliation with HamTest, I just found it very helpful to me)

    HAM Operators- Post up here

I passed the technician exam last night with a 100% score. Haven't purchased a radio yet but am considering a Yaesu FT 2900. They don't seem too popular in the east, but would expect to use it when out west on trails and RV ing.

Good books and first mechanicals-new XJ

I wouldn't recommend the Haynes manual, I have it and don't like it, especially for the later XJs. You can also get a factory manual on disk from ebay and sometimes on CL for around $10.

Awesome $12 storage boxes at Home Depot !!!

Could not find the yellow top box at the Sebring Fl. HD, but picked up 2 boxes called "Power Packer" (20 gal). They were about twice the money, have a hinged lid, and are pretty ridgid, and stackable. Filled them with stuff, strapped them to the roof rack with rachet straps (very tight) and...

Can you use 20 lb BBQ cylinders on their side?

A standard 20 lb grill tank should never be on it's side for use or transport for all of the above reasons. In addition they are equipped with an OPD (overfill protection device) that shuts the fill off at the legal 80%. This is basically a float valve that can be damaged or jammed if the tank...

Any info on old 4x4 Winnebago?

This was a pretty common conversion on Cape Cod for running the dunes and surf fishing. Most of the mechanicals came from 3/4 or 1 ton Dodge pickups. I spent a lot of time under them refilling the propane, you dont want to go there, ugliest rust you have ever seen. The early Winnies were built...

    1951 Jeep sells for $104K

Auction Jeep They also sold a restored Commando (early 70's I think) for $80,000. Believe it belonged to a country music star. I guess that raised the "value".

    CB antenna location

I see many pics of antennas mounted on the front bumper, what is the advantage? I have a Wrangler TJ with a Cobra 75 WX and a 4' Firestick mounted on the tire carrier, and even though the SWR is under 1.5, I never seem to get good reception, and need a lot of squelch. (Jeep has a hard top and...
