Beater Wagon

I wonder why we don't see more of these in the "Overland Industry".
It seems like a great platform. There are plenty of people driving way older vehicles

Just looking at the paint "after pics makes me:

A) think of Pearl Jam "I wish I was a messenger, and all the news was good. I wish I was the full moon shining off a [Power Wagon's] hood

B) want to learn how to do paint correction

C) both of those things

Good song! And paint correction sucks TBH. and I try not to deal with it if ever possible, but it's inevitable if you buy used stuff.

Good question. I search vehicles for sale daily. I see Power Wagons, of any generation, next to never.

Same here. I think most owners keep them or they become family vehicles. I see them on occasion, but it's rare. I feel I got very lucky finding a one owner truck, that he was ready to move on, and willing to make a great deal.

I've been getting a few things in each day. Also replaced the backup camera, so that's working again. BulletPoint Mounting Solutions for the phones I'll put in later. A diff cover that is 3/8" thick and super stout. The steering I'm replacing with the HD Mopar unit. https://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/mopar-steering-upgrade-03-13-Ram.aspx

Also got two SUPER rare Canadian Military Gas Jerry's. Was a cool find. Not sure how many of these are around, but VERY few. I believe only a single run was made. They should look good on the Expedition One swing out rear bumper that Came off my 2018 when I put it on here.

But RN I'm dealing with this exhaust. Took off the manifolds and 5 studs were snapped off. All the ones I removed luckily stayed whole, but these have been broken a long time. You can see the black on the head where they have been leaking. I've gotten all the passenger side ones extracted and the bolt holes cleaned out and ready for the new BD diesel manifold, but I have 3 that are fighting me on the driver side. I have a different extraction tool set coming in tomorrow I hope will get it done. If not I'm pulling the head.

as soon as my Rebel is off extended warranty I am changing out mine. 2 months from now. The mechanic at the stealership told me to not change them until off the extended warranty as he has seen them deny claims due to "motor work" , dumb.
I have a pair of stockers I have sanded flat and port matched (LOL) for 5.7. I love what your doing with this Wagon and I am very envious. Nice job

Thank you! I really like this truck.

It's definitely not fun drilling and backing these bolts out. But if yours aren't leaking, I would just change out the bolts. Those are the issue I believe. I will say though. The difference between the BD manifolds and the stockers are pretty striking. They are opened up A TON by comparison. Like they actually paid attention to flow dynamics, vs the ease of casting.

Well it's been a fight. The 5 bolts that were broken off in this set of heads are finally out. Only one made me break out the welder. The others came out with a drill and easy out, which was good due to their placement. A right ange drill was barely small enough. I damn sure couldn't have gotten my mig in there. I've got the passenger side manifold bolted back up. Just waiting on a new gasket from BD. They overnighted one since mine came to me with a split in it. I should have checked closer prior to starting, but they are making it good. I'm in no rush. Hopefully I have a quiet exhaust again in a day or two. My new Mopar shields came in as well.

Love the progress on this "beater" haha, it's going to be one nice daily when you're done. It's wild, there are at least a dozen or more Power Wagons here in the small town of 20,000 people that I live in, definitely well above the national average. I see at least two on a daily basis but when I lived in a much larger town I rarely ever saw any at all, they must be popular here with the locals.

More parts have come in. And I'm so ready to get them on. This truck is in DIRE NEED of suspension and steering parts. It wanders worse than any truck I've ever owned. This will be as much of a MASSIVE improvement as it will be a massive job to complete. I'll need to remove the entire front end and put the axle up on my workbench, before repainting and reinstalling.
