It looks like I am free that weekend so put me down. I'll bring one of the Unimogs, either bring the camper or the double cab.

Will the mog fit through gold mountain? It's been a little while but aren't there a couple tight spots?

I ran holcomb creek in my old taco around Xmas last year and there were a couple really tippy spots, with the snow/ice as no help. It's typically not that bad but I don't know if anybody has done any trail maint. since.

Here's a shot of one of the rock gardens on holcomb creek...

We ran gold mountain a few months ago with a F350 super duty in the snow and it took us like 20 mins to get it turned around and he was a experienced driver. We had a first timer in a chevy fullsize late model pickup and he slid into a tree and dented his fender pretty bad. There's def. some tight spots for a mog for sure.

If its tight I'll leave the camper at home. You didn't say if the F350 made it or not? Why did it turn around, what makes it tight? boulders or tight canyons? I am not worried about scratching the mog, the 416 has a much shorter wheelbase than a F350 and about the same width and a tiny bit taller, its turning circle is probabably less than a tacoma.

If you guys think it'll be too big I'll skip it, I don't want to inconvienice you guys. I have a small unimog too, I could take that instead, if it don't fit you guys don't fit either but it'll be a painful drive for me to get there.

You should be just fine. If you're not as long you'll do even better. Part of the problem was is that we were in the snow which gives you very little control over where you are going to turn around. Reason we turned around is because the 2 full size rigs were not locked front and rear and we were heading into a icy rock climb that i knew they would have not made. If we got them into that next spot, it would have been very tough to pull them up and over.

Almost forgot that on my last trip an awesome red H-1 (Ron B of this forum) breezed right through everything on the trail so it should definitely be OK for a MOG

You don't really need an adventure pass, I have friend that do gold panning and when they get ticket for no adventure pass they tear them up right in front of the ranger, it's an empty threat.

People who come to wheel with this group outing must have an Adventure Pass or be a badge-carrying Federal Agent.

Please do not discuss the topic in this Big Bear thread.

Discussions about the Adventure Pass Program can go here:

Big Bear is going to be very popular that weekend. There is a decent size group from Mud meeting up there to wheel/camp/BBQ and they are meeting at the Fawnskin F.S. at 10 a.m. You Expo guys get up a little earlier than the Mudders. Anyway, some of them had mentioned wanting to check out Expo members rides, so is there any chance we could all meet together in the a.m.??? I don't want to have to choose between the two!

Here is what the guys on Mud are planning.

I'm not saying everybody get together and wheel the same trails, I am just talking about meeting at the same time to say hi and give hi-5's.

Ditto, ran GM as a warm-up for John Bull. Freakin' EB moved a rock in the way, I had the killer show-off line on the Gatekeeper, then bleh!

Too bad I'm already sched'd to be in Petroglyph Cyn that weekend.

We were planning to meet at the Discovery Center at 9 AM. Why not swing by there first and then go to Fawnskin at 10AM?

If nobody wants to meet up as a large group that is what I'll do. I was just throwing the idea out there cuz a number of Mud guys wanted to check out your rigs. I'll see if they are willing to change their meet time and place, but I don't want to step on any toes and I don't want anybody feeling like I am forcing the issue. If Mud is willing to meet at your time/place, is that ok with all of you?

No pressure on the toes here! :luxhello:

Please see if they can meet over at the Discovery Center at 9. It would be cool to meet them and it would keep us on schedule as a bunch of us are up for only one day and if we drag the morning out too much we won't get much wheeling done.
