And, it now takes me a little over 1 gallon of fuel to go to work and back at 50mpg on a 70 mile (roundtrip) commute.

I am looking very heavily at buying the KLR650. I plan on getting Blue 21 version. I have a few questions though. I read a on-line review by MOTORCYCLEUSA.com about the new 08 Honda XR650, Kawasaki KLR650, BMW Xcountry:

Here:
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=7039&Page=1

Anyways they said they only got 36 MPG's on there test but they said they tested it in all conditions. In comparsion to Kawi saying it gets 55MPG. So my question is what does it really get.

I'm going to use it as a commuter and very light recreational use for now anyways ;) .

I see that it cost about $5400 which i think is great. But to you TACODOC and others what can I expect to spend on getting a taller "touring" type of windsheild, a bag for the luggage rack, and maybe some side saddle bags. As of now I just need something to carry a helmet, and my lunch to and from work.

Any help you can offer is appreciated...OH and is it worth while getting the good times protection plan.

12v power and GPS Mount!

Finally got my 12v power and RAM mount installed on the bike.

The Magellan Crossover gets moved around between 3 different rigs now.

Here is the RAM mount:

The 12v power is from SW-Motech:

You know, the more I ride my KLR the more I like it.
And, the more ways I find to change it with farkels:Mechanic: .

A great all around bike.
I can lean it into the corners with the crotch rockets and jumping into the river crossings are great fun.
I commute on it every day and long cross country trips don't intimidate me at all with this bike

Your 08 is coming aloing nicely.

Best wishes for many safe miles and smiles.:clapsmile

Too bad you’re in Utah.

There’s a bunch of us going to Arkansas next week for some R&R.

We’ll be doing a little street, a little dirt, and some serious single track thrown in for grins.

There could be about 100 Dual Sport Bikes all together, with group rides of about 6 to 10 riders. It’s a Very un-official this year. It's called "The Un-Official Fall Colors Tour",
The 1st rally point is Clarksville Arkansas.

Most riders will be on some serious Expedition Prepped KLR's.

Last year we had to share the Pig Trail Rd. with the Harleys and Barca Hondas some. But we would turn off on the nearest dirt roads and leave them to the Asphalt. We tried to stay off the pavement as much as possible unless it means the only way to get to the next dirt road.

I'll be leaving early and looping up into Missouri first.

Gonna do some Camping :camping: and some Hotels when I feel like a soft bed.

THAT is a sweet looking bike! :coffeedrink:

Especially the .223 chainguard.:Wow1:
Looks like a torture test by Colt- ride for 6 hours in the mud and see if it malfunctions.
