Are arms for the double tire swing out different from a single swing out tire arm?

I think I remember reading that the double swing out arms suspend the tire further from the vehicle to accommodate 2 tires??

Yep, thats why i had to sell the old setup and get new arms. They are two totally different part numbers. The actual arm is the same.. but the upright that holds the tire to the arm is placed further inboard so that you can now fit two.

i never liked the way the high lift jacks hung out there on the back of a tire carrier. id find a better place to put that.

It works just fine for us there. It's only a 48" jack and we don't have to worry about scraping it on ledges cause we don't rock crawl the cruiser :) Somedays im torn and want to toss it inside and bolt it down.. other days... i feel it does just fine. The only problem i have is the amount of weight back there already on the bumper.... not so much the departure angle.

The latch is something they had designed. Different than the stuff i see available here in the US. I really cannot describe it. Just a snap type latch with a huge latch handle on it.

I've heard that the spindle is made special for Kaymar too. It's like a trailer spindle that has steps in it. Here's a shot of their spindle..

I'd be surprised if it's made special when those are available over the counter. I sure wouldn't do that for a production item as it would drive up cost.

I take it that the bearings are located in the bumper?

edit: durrr... had I only looked up I'd have seen where the bearings are.....

From what i understand,... many have tried to find them and cannot. Searching trailer shops , axle manuf. and looking at truck spindles. And since they sell the spindle for $125.00 ... from Kaymar.. it sure sounds about right. They use this spindle on all their bumpers... which would be a ton of models.

No the bearings are in the arm along with a seal.

Rudimentary search seems to confirm my back-of-the-head impression that Kaymar is in Australia? That, combined with vendor profit margin, would explain the high consumer cost.

It's entirely possible that their specific dims combo is something not found in the States, but is found in AUS. For a production item it would take a very compelling set of reasons for me to not buy something off the shelf & preferrably be a very common dims set so that I'd have a choice of vendors. Can never build it for close to what you can buy it for. The economies of scale just aren't there for a bumper mfg.

I really liked what Rob Gray did for a second spare on Wothehellizat II:

(Page link) Though not quite as easy to use as a fully functional 2nd spare.

Do you have a link to their website? I would like to look at a few items!

Not quite the same, Gray's inner is an unmounted tire (& tube?) sitting on a piece of steel tube & captured by the mounted spare.

Still I reckon neither is the first to do either.

Yeah i hear ya. Many guys just ratchet strap a tire only to the outside of the single tire carrier.

Seen many variations. Good stuff all around though.
