HID Upgrade w/o projectors?

I know on my motorbike, the HID conversion pisses oncoming driver's off. But, I can actually see at night on the bike, not that I ride after dark anyways...

Believe me, police most everywhere have alot better things to do than pull you over for headlights and go through a serious check on the legality of your pretty well thought out HID conversion.

If the police won't be a problem then why stop with the HIDs?? Why not throw a bank of stadium lights up there for good measure? Forget about the other drivers on the road, they don't need to see.

I hate HIDs. I hate the way you get machine gun blinded from oncoming traffic on bumpy roads. Halogen lights are just fine, plenty of light and plenty of visibility.

just do what i did, and do it anyway. i got my kit for free (favor from a friend) so i had nothing to lose. i love them. the output still sucks, but at least its acceptable now. i went and reaimed my lights to factory specs so i dont blind drivers.

i got alot of flac on the internet about this mod, so i did it anyway and didnt post about it. ive never had people flash me for oncoming traffic, etc.

one of my ballasts is dieing (failing to start, esp when cold) so it will be replaced with a 5000k DDM hi/low kit.

Yeah I think we were waiting on an HID write up as well as one for your winch.

I've given up flashing my lights at oncoming drivers. They either ignore me, or are running HID's and turn them on bright which makes it even harder to see.

Well my output doesn't suck but it could be better , thats what I'm after. I guess I could look into higher wattage H4 bulbs but that comes with its own problems (more draw, shorter bulb life, additional cost)..

Wait till you have oncoming traffic throw on their brights because they think you are doing the same. Wait till a cop stops you on a rural road for having illegal lights.

Ask me how i know. I have 4 sets(8 lights) of forward facing HIDs, it wasnt a fun night for me, this was coming back from a night rally on a very very rural road with a truck that doesnt see a lot of daily driving. When it is in town, all lenses are covered.

That sounds like a DA move, I've yet to be pulled over running my LF 240's but if I had 8 I think thats a recipe for a ticket. C'mon, keep it relevant!

The IPF high beam or lightforce take care of uncooperative light dimmers, since both are halogen there is no warm up just instant on (another plus to halogen or mixed gas).

for the HID writeup. whats the point? i am just going to get 5 :victory: and the rest of the posts will be telling me what an %^&* i am for driving around with HID's.

i never even got pictures of my setup or the output. maybe its something i will do soon though.

as for the winch, yeah im lazy/busy.

If you want to better your lighting the first thing to do should be to make sure you have good grounds, good connections to the lights, and probably a better harness. For $15 or less you can install a relay close to your lights and run 12ga wire, and just use your stock switch to run the relay.

Yeah, but I'm not in to escalating light wars. Blinding other drivers, no mater how much of a ******** they are, sort of flies in the face of why I don't like it when people install HID "upgrade" kits.

This is Toyota were talking about here, everything is grounded and well. I'm fairly certain the harness doesn't need replacing.

Just giving you a hard time. I saw your setup at Pismo and I've got 3 DDM kit's so I know what they're all about.

Newer cars lights are substantially brighter than the lights on my 4runner. I ran h4 with 130w low beams(I didn't know better as a well respected shop on this forum installed them) on my 02 taco. They were not any brighter than the stock lights on my 05 Tacoma. The only reason I haven't gone to a h4s on my 4runner is I didn't like replacing bulbs every 6 months. Xcmountain80 I would appreciate you letting us know what you end up doing and if it is worth the time.

Well I've used a few halogen or halogen like bulbs available in the US over the years. The fancy sylvania's seem brighter because of the glare, while nice they acheive their brilliance through glare. The IPF bulbs allegidly use a different gas and acheive brighter light with minimal glare, I like them but I still desire better.

before taking my truck out on the street i drove in my buddies civic and had him drive behind me so i could see if i was indeed blinding drivers. i also had him come the opposite direction and still no blinding was occuring....

It took me 3 years with my taco before buying hids because i hated all the a**holes rocking their 8000k hids blinding me. i dont know if its because of the 4500k or what but my lights cut off right below the rear window on most vehicles and dont blind oncoming traffic. plus it was only 100 bucks for both kits shipped.

Most people on here seem to need some carrot juice in their diet. I really have a hard time believing stock lights aren't good enough. I've driven my 4Runners, Tacoma, and current LC through full lit cities to po dunk towns out in bfe with no problems. Maybe you guys are staring at computer screens for too long? :D

If you decide to do this rice mod, please make sure you're at least not blinding others. Like mentioned above, I've also given up flashing as it does no good. And make sure to post up the weak scattered light pattern with the accompanying hot spots. :D
