Dang jsmarine, you do some incredible builds. Loved your 4runner build, now you're making me like Tacomas more. You make me want to call in sick to work for a week or two and speed up my mod progress on my 4runner.

Agreed, I may be after something different. I just sold of my 70' CJ5 that I had lifted with 38s, so I am likely trying to make the Tacoma into something I had!

Anyway, thanks for the response and nice setup!

Put in an Optima Yellow Top battery recently; and also cleaned up all the wiring while I was at it. I also picked up a steel optima battery holder off eBay, which works much better than the factory battery hold down, since the Optima is a little smaller than the factory battery.

Its been a while since I updated this, and I wish I had more to update with. But I bought a home about a year and a half ago, so most of my disposable income has gone into the house.

Anyways, I replaced my ARB rocker switch covers with some Contura laser etched switch covers from here; http://otrattw.com/index.php. I think they give it a more factory look, which I like. I also relocated them to the upper switch slots; before I found I was hitting the switches with my knee inadvertently.

Installed new OME 886 coils and struts a few weekends ago. Had my brother help me and he posted a video on his YouTube channel. I had 886 and OME struts before, but they had about 95,000 miles on them, so it was time. The struts were pretty bad in fact after we got them off. I replaced the rear shocks as well, but we didn't get a video or pictures of that.

The video he posted is a how-to, and for those that dont know how to replace your front coilovers, this is a pretty easy method that doesn't require a spring compressor. Its easy, just be careful. Hope you guys dont mind a shameless plug here, but please check out the videos, and my brothers other videos. He is actually fixing up an old C10 Chevy pickup as a project and is documenting a few how-to videos on YouTube of his progress.

Recently I rebuilt my Warn 9.5XP winch, and replaced the old steel line with Warn's Spydura 3/8"x100' synthetic line. I had my brother give me a hand with all this, and he shot some video of the process and uploaded it to his YouTube channel.

The whole process was pretty straight forward; we just disassembled the winch, cleaned off all the old grease with brake cleaner and paint thinner, then re-packed it with new grease, put on new gaskets, and put it back together.

Along with the new synthetic winch line, I decided to replace the rollers on the fairlead with Daystar rollers, rather than use a hawse fairlead.

Check out the video for the whole process, it was pretty interesting actually seeing how the planetary gears work.

EDIT: I got everything from Amazon.com by the way; the new line, rollers, warn gaskets, and even one of the bolts that I lost that holds the planetary housing on the winch. You can find all the part numbers from the Warn website.

....I think it will work well this way because I like having the flexible hose for when I have to change the air filter...

Fwiw our kits (SS135MOD) come with a short piece of intake air tube that is used in conjunction with the factory flexible hose. That way you can still easily swap air filters and you don't have to track down additional parts. Instructions on the site are a bit outdated but the kits come with all the current goods i.e. intake tube, template, etc. Glad the instructions were helpful ;)

I appreciate the youtube videos! That seems like a great alternative to using sketchy spring compressors or paying a shop $200 to do it! Thanks.

It is a good alternative! Ive used the rental spring compressors before on my old 4runner, and it was very sketchy! I ended up putting on an old football helmet just to finish the job because I was afraid they might bust! This was the first time I used this method, and it was very easy.

Two weeks ago I bought 5 new BF Goodrich KM2 tires, in 255/85 R16. Love them so far, I have always liked the look of this size.

Jeff! Hey man, the truck is looking great. I still get compliments and offers on the old trailer. If you need a spare for the new meats, I picked up a set of KM2 255's to use as a spare on my truck and to switch out to the same size on the trailer eventually. If you make it to Austin and you need a spare, let me know. I'll let you have a spare for a cold beer. Hope all is well.

Hey, good to hear from you! Glad to hear you still have that old yota trailer, I was just thinking about that thing the other day actually. Anyways, thanks for the compliments, and the next time I'm in Austin Id be happy grab a beer with you, whether you have a spare tire for me or not! Hope all is well with you!
