Great looking truck. Is that one of those swing case toolboxes? I would love to hear further thoughts on that, specific to the Tacoma.

Yeah, it is a Swingcase, it came with the truck when I bought it. I really like it, it is very handy to be able to access it from the tailgate rather than reaching over the bed rails.

I think you'll quickly find that the shovel and hi-lift are in the way. With the lower mount RTT setup getting to gear in the front of the bed becomes a bit more of a chore as you can't feasibly climb in the bed of the truck from the back. I have a very similar setup (FR Bakkie Rack on gen 1 DC Tacoma) and there is no way I would mount stuff on the sides given how much I need to get stuff through that gap. Keep up the good work on the build!

Yeah, I know what you mean about accessing stuff from the side. But the bed is so short I don't see it as a problem, but I will just have to test out the setup on the next trip and see how it all works out.

Mine is short too, but with the tailgate down its still impractical to get stuff out of the front or middle of the bed. I have my fridge, dry food cooler, camp kitchen and fuel/water in a row along the back row, tools, camp chairs, firewood, etc go in front of that. I would personally loathe having to unload things to get to my camp chair or tool bag. That said I don't pack a shovel nor a hi-lift so my needs are likely different than yours.

I decided to paint the back of my IPF lights white, to match the truck. The paint was starting to fade and chip in places anyways. I didn’t take any before pictures actually, but the lights were a gray color. The process was pretty easy, disassembled the lights and painted them with Rustoleum Semi Gloss white. I really like how they turned out.

I also got my new ARB high output compressor installed that I bought from brand new off a guy on tacomaworld.com. He bought it new a while back, never opened the box, never installed it. He decided he didn't want it and wanted to free up some cash, so I got it for a few bucks less than retail price.

I had the smaller ARB compressor, but it was only for the lockers, and I wanted to be able to fill up my tires as well. It is so hot here in Dallas, and I was just trying to get it installed as quickly as possible; that I forgot to take some installation pictures. But, it was pretty straight forward, just followed the instructions. Heres a few pictures of it installed. I mounted it in the same place as the old compressor, under the hood on the driver's side behind the battery and fuse box.

Awesome truck. Do you have any other pictures of the tent rack? I've been trying to figure something out of for the bed of my truck and can't quite get it sorted out.

I can take some more pictures this evening, the tent rack is sitting in my garage; I dont keep it on the truck since its my DD.

Here is some more pictures for you guys, I wasn't really sure what you wanted to see, so here it is sitting on piece of plywood on a saw horse in my garage.

The rack is 52" long by 45" wide. It is made with 2" square tubing, I think 14 gauge wall. But, the two cross bars in the middle are 1 1/2" tubing, 14 gauge wall, and the RTT clamps onto those; 2" square was just a little too big for the clamps provided with the tent.

The legs are also the same 2" square tubing, about 15" long. The feet (what sits on the bed rails) are 1/8" plate.

Well I feel like I am moving pretty quickly with this build, it helps that I bought the truck with a lot already done to it.

So I cut out a little early this afternoon from work so I could put my snorkel on. Other than it being hotter than hell here in Dallas, it went fairly smooth; I just took my time lining everything up. I won't get into the installation details as TACODOC has already blazed that trail. http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/tec...o_snorkel.html

But, I did do something a little different for hose fittings; I cut the stock hose off near where it would go into the fender, and then used a small piece of flexible air duct I got at Pep Boys and connected that to the stock air hose, and to the rubber hose that was provided with the snorkel.

I think it will work well this way because I like having the flexible hose for when I have to change the air filter.

Great thread - I really appreciate the details and the pics.

I edited my post to be more appropriate to your build thread. Apologize for including info that belonged in a different category.

One questions regarding the OME 886's:

Did you consider running OME 886's with Nitrochargers and a top spacer on the quad cab?

Also, with your current setup (ARB Bumper and winch riding on OME 885's) can you measure what the distance is between the center of the hub (center of wheel) and the fender (measured vertically straight up from center of wheel or hub to point where tape measure hits fender) with truck parked on level ground?

1)Is it really that stiff with 886's?

I have 885's and it is not too stiff at all, actually very functional. I am wondering what the difference will be - I see the 886's are lised at being taller and a

2) Has anyone had a problem with too much CV angle? Again, I have the 885's with a toytect top plate spacer and about 3 inches of lift, no problem yet. Had them for 4 years now.

3) Any other problems anyone can report?

4) Has anyone ever seen a manual locking hub kit for the 05+ Tacoma?

Thanks for the feedback!

I currently have OME 885's with OME Nitrochargers and a Toytec top spacer on a 2007 Quad Cab 4wd 6 speed manual. I have added Light Racing UCA's and extended all 4 brake lines. The rear is lifted with Toytec AAL and Toyota TSB spring packs and OME Nitrochargers.

With this setup the truck sits at 24 inches measured from the center of the hub to the fender. It sists level when the gas tank is empty. When it is full, it sits at 23.5 inches on drivers side and a little over 24 inches on the pass side.

Also have done carrier bearing drop kit and front differential drop kit. Tires are Wild Country 285-70-17's on AR Mojave 17's with 4.5 backpacing. The truck has a fiberglass canopy.

I have added All-Pro SLiders with rear kickout and fill plates.

The lift and other mods have been done for about 4 years now.

I want to go to either an All Pro, Relentless, or ARB front bumper and an Armor Tech Offroad rear bumper with swing gate. I also plan to add a full Armor Tech Offroad skid assembly.

I want to make sure I am maintaining the same lift I have now after the add ons, and am considering that I may need to migrate to OME 886's and am considering AllPro Expedition Weight leaf packs.

Info I have says 885 = 395 MM , 886= 402 MM

So, if I currently have an 885 with a 15 MM top spacer my current setup is 410 MM

I am proposing an 886 with 10 MM spacer, so 412 MM

Then there is spring rebound weight to consider which leaves me with less sag, and more lift, that is what I am curious about.

An extend cab with plate bumper will weigh less than a quad cab with plate bumper. I am trying to determine if this will work. I know it is on the outside range of reasonable, but that my deal.....haha!

Since I have migrated to the Light Racing UCA, ball joint angle on the UCA is not an issue.

Here is one member (Barlowrs) running the wheelers off road (out of Grants Pass OR) 10 MM spacer with 886 and Nitrochargers on an extend cab with a All Pro bumper:

If anyone is running OME 886's with a top plate feedback on the following would be great!

1)Is it really that stiff with 886's?

I have 885's and it is not too stiff at all, actually very functional. I am wondering what the difference will be - I see the 886's are lised at being taller and a heavier weight:

OME884 390mm, 590lbs/in, 1 inch of lift
OME885 395mm, 590lb/in, 1.5 to 2 inches of lift
OME886 402mm, 660lbs/in, 2.5-3+ inches of lift
Factory TRD Tacoma springs, 14 inches long, 540lbs/in, 0 lift

2) Has anyone had a problem with too much CV angle? Again, I have the 885's with a toytect top plate spacer and about 3 inches of lift, no problem yet. Had them for 4 years now.

3) Any other problems anyone can report?

4) Has anyone ever seen a manual locking hub kit for the 05+ Tacoma?

Thanks for the feedback!

Wow, you are really over thinking this...and some of that should be posted in another thread, maybe in a tech section more specific to suspension setups for Tacoma’s. My build thread isn’t really the place for that.

But, I can help a little with the spring questions. I bought my truck with most of the modifications already installed, including the OME springs, so I did not consider any other springs. My truck sits a little higher in the rear, which is what you want so when you add weight in the bed it doesn’t sag or ride nose high. The front seems fine with the bumper and winch, rides well and isn’t sagging under the weight, it leans slightly to the driver’s side, but not a big deal to me.

If you don’t mind changing out the front springs again, then you might as well go with the 886 coils if you plan on adding a heavy duty bumper and winch; thats what OME reccomends so I would trust them. I wouldn’t bother with the top plate spacers unless you are correcting for drivers side lean or something. I think they are unnecessary. For me, I’m just not interested in lifting the truck anymore than what the OME springs already provide, or trying to gain every last millimeter I can with spacers and trim packers.

Just my $.02
