that looked a bit challenging.. How was it?

its on my short list of things to finish :violent-smiley-031:

It was actually really easy.

The hardest part is installing the lights - which isn't that hard anyway.

Here's a link to the links I used for the wiring and the dash removal...

Before you wire in the relay you can use a fused jumper and take the suspect wire and ground it, turn the locker switch on and see if the proper dash light turns on.

Thanks Mark :)

Yes I remember reading that thread it made me laugh a bit.

So I take it you are liking the move to an 80 by now?

I love the 80! It's STOUT. I loved the feel of it driving the trail, it felt so tough. Driving a sfa is really nice.

I can see once I work all the little bugs out and iron out all the little details it will be one stellar machine. I'll be scaling rocks and cruisin the backroads in comfort! :wings:

Well I had a package arrive from gigaparts.com

yaesu ft-7800r
free seperation kit
comet sbb5nmo antenna
k400cnmo hatch mount
c110 10' antenna extension
cleartone external speaker

I installed the radio under the aob drawers in the rear, so I don't lose much cargo space. I have yet to decide where to mount the face and ext speaker. I should be finishing that up today and I'll take pics.

I tried it out last night and hit the big bear and catalina repeaters on 5w :jumping: Now I need to learn how to use nodes.

Right on Mark, lets see some pics of the install.

I got lucky. I thought they were long gone. I called and asked, none available. I emailed just for info about them and to express interest in hopes they'd order more. Christo wrote back stating that had one in stock.

If he has enough interest, he may order more. It just seemed like there wasn't enough demand for them. Maybe if you told him you had a handful of people ready to buy them he may import more.

I'd probably order one, what did it run if you don't mind me asking? I wanted one a few months ago, but heard from another member they were no longer available so i didn't even ask Christo.

I have my fridge on that slide out though.. so i don't know how/if that setup would work for me.

Let Christo know you want one - if he has enough interests he may bring over a container. Maybe start a mud thread?

Here's a couple pics with the fridge...

plenty room for a 45...
and the slide is fully functional.

2m/440cm install

Well I just finished cleaning up most of the install. Here's what I came up with. Thanks to all the info on Mud I knew what to expect as this is a common setup among the 80 crowd.

Here's where I put the radio. It's above the driver side rear wheel well. This way it doesn't really take up storage space, has fair amount of room to breath and I don't have to worry about it getting banged up. If heat becomes an issue, or if I just get really paranoid there's a couple places that I can install some computer type fans to aid in cooling. This orientation also allows me fairly easy access to the data plug on the unit to program it via my notebook.

Here's the antenna, imho it works quite well. If I ever get time (a lot of time) I'd still like to drill a gigantic hole in the roof and mount it up top, aft the tent.
PS, I got a new fender flare, the original was hanging by a thread.

Antenna cable routing...I just need to fill it with some silicone.

I thought I wanted to mount the cleartone speaker where the dash 3.5" speaker is, behind the grill (top right of the photo) for a stealthy install. However, I think I'd rather upgrade the stereo speaker along with the rest of the audio. So I put the cleartone above the foot rest. So far so good, I think it'll be plenty loud.

And here's the faceplace/mic mount. My goal with the interior is no wires and oem appearance (yes the gps wire is going bye bye too). The most functional location without it being in direct sunlight was here. It's within arms reach, the mic cable is not hanging in front of something and the lcd display is clearly ledgible from the drivers perspective. I'll have to snap a better photo

FWIW, I'll be re-doing my radio install this weekend (hopefully). There's a great fitting bracket that I'd like you to all see and get your opinion. Pictures forthcoming...

My initial faceplate location was in front of the sunroof controls but that was too close for comfort...

i was looking at that as well but you're right is was a little far back
and there's no easy way to angle it towards the driver side...

The only thing I'm wondering is if the mic cable will interfere with the mirror at all.

after sitting in the 80 again, I don't think this will be a problem.
