That was a fun loop! Thanks for the tour!

All, if you are riding alone, I highly recommend some sort of ID (there are several products out there for your wrist, shoe or helmet). Recently a friend of mine was on a solo ride and he broke his pelvis and elbow. He was unable to get himself out of there he had to wait quite awhile for a hiker to show up and help him out. Depending on where you ride, consider carrying a cell phone, Ham radio or a Spot. BTW - my friend gave me the ID tag after I did a face-plant on a group ride.

Thanks for coming over for the ride Tony.

I contacted Vital ID and was told that they have discontinued the helmet ID that you have. They have replaced it with the following. Right now it is on backorder until the end of the month.

Solo Single Track Monday - March 12, 2012

Moonlander-SoloSingleTrackMonday3-0822.jpg

Well I lucked out and received my new GoPro Hero2. +1 for REI's return policy. I was talking to the store manager and he was quite adamant about returning the GoPro if it had stopped working properly. A quick check of there computer systems, pulled up the fact that I had indeed purchased the GoPro Hero from them.

So today I thought I would run the same loop as yesterday and try and capture some still images. Yes I now have about a 1000 images. For your viewing pleasure I will submit this one! There has to be a better camera angle to show off the terrain as well as the rider/action.

Moonlander-SoloSingleTrackMonday8-1065.jpg

Back at the house. I managed to do the same 11 mile loop in 1 hour 25 minutes. I rode pretty much none stop with only 2 minutes and 56 seconds of down time. Moving average jumped from 6.3 to 7.7 mph.

Distance 11.1 miles

Stoked to see this thread over here! I just got back from MN riding my Salsa Mukluk on the snowmobile trails out there. I've been posting pics here. I think I've seen some of you pics in the MTBR fatbike forum. My handle is Area45 over there. We need to get a fatbike rally together sometime. Our community seems to be growing everyday!

Hello Errin,

PM me if you have an ideas for a group ride. I would like to get together and see what others are up too. I'd be up for traveling if there is a good trail!

Thanks :bike_rider:

Wednesday Night Ride #2 - March 14, 2012

Moonlander-WednesdayNIghtRide9-0569.jpg

Off to the local night ride out of Oak Creek Ranch. Just down the road from my house. I am loving the time change. 6 pm and plenty of sun light.

Moonlander-WednesdayNIghtRide2-1123.jpg

The Moonlander set up with an old school Night Rider Headlamp. Still working well after many years.

Moonlander-WednesdayNIghtRide3-1199.jpg

Well it was a group ride, but shortly there after it was just the two of us. We still had a great time!

Moonlander-WednesdayNIghtRide6-1341.jpg

Later on we caught the group coming back from one of there out and back loops.

Moonlander-WednesdayNIghtRide7-1374.jpg

That did not last long. A quick puncture and we were on our own again. No problem, we were just enjoying the evening.

Hi Dangerman,

16" is going to be perfect. I have the 18" Moonlander and I am 5' 8" and 180 pounds. If I ever get the chance I would like to try a 16" just to see how it feels. I am a little stretched out on the 18". I have been playing with an adjustable stem to see if I can dial it in. Get ready to smile a lot.:bike_rider: You are going to have a blast!

Backroads to O'Reilly Auto Parts - March 15, 2012

Moonlander-BackroadstoOReillyAutoParts-1610.jpg

I headed out this morning with a final destination of O'Reilly Auto Parts. Needed to pick up something for the Pinzgauer. Since I was going over the hill, I decided to climb some of the trails I did last night. If I was quick enough I might get to the top and be able to look over the low lying fog bank.

Moonlander-BackroadstoOReillyAutoParts2-1623.jpg

Slow grind to the top. The fog is starting to lift.

Moonlander-BackroadstoOReillyAutoParts4-1642.jpg

I am riding around on Power Line Access Roads.

Moonlander-BackroadstoOReillyAutoParts6-1662.jpg

Made it to the top of Franks Peak. A little late today for the fog bank. As it warms up, it pushes to the coast.

Moonlander-BackroadstoOReillyAutoParts7-1742.jpg

From here I headed off the backside into San Marcos to O'Reilly's.

OReillyAutoParts.jpg

I rode counter clockwise.

Distance 19.3 miles
Elevation 2534 feet
Moving Average 8.8 mph

Lake Hodges go East - March 16, 2012

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast13-0587.jpg

A nice long ride out at Lake Hodges in Escondido.

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast3-2178.jpg

Great two track with some single track thrown in.

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast14-0588.jpg

The high point for the day. I continued East out of curiosity.

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast7-2305.jpg

This section of the trail is overgrown with tall grass. Spooked a coyote. Impressive watching him make his escape.

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast10-2439.jpg

Coming back off the high point of the day. Lots of birds of prey spotted.

Moonlander-LakeHodgesgoEast11-2517.jpg

Back at the dock were the Pinzgauer was parked close by.

LakeHodgesgoEast.jpg

Started at Hernandez Hideaway(Mexican Restaurant on the Westside of Lake Hodges). Out and back.

Distance 30.1 miles
Elevation 2016 feet
Moving Average 10.4 mph

San Marcos Fire Station #4 Night Ride - March 18, 2012

Moonlander-SanMarcosFireStation4-2631.jpg

San Diego has been wet and windy the past two days. Once the boys were in bed. I took off for the top of the hill and Fire Station #4. All road, trails will be off limits for a couple of days depending on how much sun shine we get. This is a photograph of our town square and the water fountain in the middle. Photographed with the GoPro Hero 2. Still very lacking in low light situations. I should have brought the Panasonic Lumix.

Moonlander-SanMarcosFireStation44-2682.jpg

Another poor shot up at the San Marcos Fire Station #4.

Poor shot or not, it's still better than no shot. You are out there riding, and I'm here at home enjoying a scotch. You are bad ***.

Poor shot or not. The GoPro has some short comings with not having an LCD to view. I know they have an add on LCD, but doesn't that defeat the waterproof case. Enjoy the Scotch!

Staples, That Was Easy! - March 19, 2012

Moonlander-Staples-2732.jpg

I needed to get some envelopes. So over the hill I went to San Marcos. Here is the San Marcos Fire Station #4 that I photographed yesterday at night.

Moonlander-Staples3-2767.jpg

Light rain today! Sticking to the roads, Twin Oaks Valley Road to be exact!

Moonlander-Staples4-2789.jpg

Destination - Staples. I thought about getting the Easy Button for the front rack. Good thing they were out of the them.

Moonlander-Staples5-2805.jpg

Just around the corner I ran into Annette and Samuel. High school friend of my wife. You just never know what you will find on a bike ride. Samuel liked all the shapes on the bike. He started off with the triangle. Then we talked about the circles and how big they were.

Moonlander-Staples7-2884.jpg

Back in San Elijo Hills. Here is another shot of the fountain in the town square.

Moonlander-Staples9-2942.jpg

The rack being put to good use. A hundred envelopes in the yellow OR bag. Finally I can get that one letter mailed!

Staples.jpg

Counter Clockwise loop.

Distance 13.6 miles
Elevation 1197 feet
Moving Average 11.1 mph
