Does anyone know the details on Dump Bump? Is it on private property? There's some signage around that leads me to believe it is now off-limits. You gotta do Potato Salad Hill since you'll be right there. If you're not ready for Lion's Back, do Baby Lion's Back.

My understanding is Dump Bump is now closed as is Lion's Back. It was mentioned in a Primedia mag earlier this year that this is the last year for Potato Salad Hill too.

Lions Back is closed now too. They are going to build condos there, so I am told....

Sidenote:

Many places in Moab that are (or once were) primitive camping spots are REQUIRING a portable toilet. We were camped quite a ways out last weekend, and we were checked by the ranger. I understand they have had some nasty problems with feces and such being left behind...

I'm planning on arriving some time Thursday evening, so I'm game for the Friday run. I'll throw in a vote for Metal Masher; looks like fun to me!

The body shop assures me that I will have the Tacoma in time for this trip. With that being said, my father-in-law, Chet, and I will be eager to get started on Friday morning. We should be arriving in town about dark on Thursday. I'll let you know if plans/circumstances change.

I think we'd like to start off with something easy and senic and then progress to something more difficult.

Ill red-eye it out there late Friday night and do the same on Sunday evening. Have we decided on a campsite yet? If so, will someone PM me those coord's or directions?

(2 miles east of Moab)

Cool - I guess I can mark portable toilet bucket off my list.

So is the plan to meet somewhere Friday morning, then head out to the trail?

Do we need to coordinate anything else? Meals? Toys? Or is it too big a group (+ kids) to figure all those logistics? I plan on making some white bean chili that my kids won't touch, so I'll have some to share. And plenty of hot dogs on a stick....

Edit: And what about wood? Should we all plan on bring some.

No wood collection @ the Sand Flats. Buy some in town, or bring what you've got...

(Excited)

Still looking for some good rappel spots:

Campsite:

CAMPSPOT has CHANGED

-We are going to camp down Kane Creek. It is a free area, that will allow for plenty of space, and gets us away from town (which is what we like, right?).

DIRECTIONS
-At McDonalds in town(the only one), there is a light, that road is Kane Creek Blvd. Turn down that road, and follow it until it comes to a "Y" where you will stay left.
-Follow this road awhile, and you will pass some trailers, some camping spots, etc. on the right and left.
-After about 2-3 miles, the road turns into dirt.
-Keep going.
-And going. You will pass "amasa back" aka the cliffhanger trail on the right.
-You should take caution, as this road has some steep cliffs on the sides, and could be a problem if you are one who likes to drive really fast on dirt roads.
-Keep going until you come to a water crossing. It isn't very deep (usually) but it is significant; you will know you have crossed it. (It will MAYBE be 3-4" deep)
-Keep going.
-After another mile or so, there is a sign on the right side of the road that says something like "Camp only in designated areas" or the like.
(We should post a sign right there or something to indicate being on the right path?)
-Keep going, and after coming up a gradual incline, in drops down again, and if you go too far, there is a second water crossing.
-The spot we are shooting for is maybe 30 yards before the second water crossing, on the right. It is nice and open.

alternative plan: If that spot is taken, continue through the 2nd water crossing, and immediately hang a left. There are plenty of good spots back in there.

I am going to try and get GPS coordinates of the spot to post up.

Friday morning meeting place:

City Market @ 9 AM and leaving at 9:30 AM (Trail still pending.....What do yous want to do????..Speak up or hold your peace)

425 South Main is the City Market, a big parking lot, last minute run into the store, near the gas station. This is on the left hand side if you're coming in from the north.

Just as Moody said above about Firewood.....If everyone can bring a bindle....I think that would be more than needed....
