Welcome to Expo!

I'v seen this rig on RT-130 a few years back, we were heading in opposite directions.

I am kind of low key over there, I only have a 3 or 400 post count, its a great site don't get me wrong but the advice given to people is always the same SAS this, 3.4 swap that when you CAN make both capable and reliable, no one wants to hear it over there though so I get kind of disapointed with the advice given because it seems no one thinks outside of the box ya know?

Agree 100% and YT is actually kinda dying IMHO.

Ok I looked at your build thread for your roof rack over on YT and still have a few questions for you. I see that you are using what look like Yak door mount roof rack legs on the front of the rack, but what are you using on the rear to support the basket?

I have a 93 Runner with a naked roof, no factory roof rack, and the 4runner goes not have a gutter system for me to mount gutter supports. So my only option is door mounted supports for a roof rack, but I want to use the entire length of the roof and would also like it to be low profile so I am at a bit of a loss on how to make it work.

The back of my rack I was actually using the factory most rear cross bar for the longest time with a spacer I had made to take up the space for the clamps. I recently just made my own cross bar, I have 2 scab plates welded right into the roof and a cross bar going to that. Typical rule of thumb for cross bars is 1 bar can handle 120lbs(says yak) so my rack should be able to hold 360lbs, now I would not recommend that since that is A LOT of roof weight haha. The rack is clamped down to the cross bars with stainless steel u bolts found in hardware stores because typically the yak hardware is the same thing. The ladder is actually a trash picked bunk bed ladder that was originally a joke from my buddy but actually ended up following the body lines with a little light mods, I have another scab plate welded to the side of the body right along the wheel well closest to the pinch welds and 2 brackets that attach to the ladder. Most of the things on my truck are fabricated/welded/cut from other pieces of metal. If you need a specific picture let me know

Hey Boosted, do you have any close-up's of how trhe ladder is secured on the bottom??? I see it's lionked to the rack above, but I can't tell how it's held on near the fender... Is it lonked to your sliders somehomw???

I love this idea of having the rack on the side, and with my 1st gen I think I could ties mine into the sliders since I don't have a 2nd door to worry about. Interested to see how you did it though.

What kind of 36's are you running. Boggers to me certainly have their place, they're just REALLY annoying to me to drive any distance on. THUNK THUNK THUNK... Glad to hear that the lift's working for you. If you've got the T-bars relaxed then I'll bet it flex's pretty well. That's the problem most of us come across with IFS is you end up running too much pre-load on the T-bars and then it's stiff as can be. I'm running BJ spacers and NO crank on the T-bars and it rides just like stock. Course my T-bars are getting old and creaky so I'm waiting on my OME units to get here. I went with them because I have OME's full line of suspension parts for my truck and they've worked GREAT and held up to lots of abuse. The OME t-bars are only like 1-2mm larger then stock so I'm hoping that they'll ride close to stock with added capacity...

Cheers

Dave

Your best bet would probably be to get a factory rack. You'd obviously have to drill through the roof, but it sounds like without gutters and wanting the rack to be full length, you would have to do some drilling either way.

The 36's I use to run before I bumped up to these 37` boggers were Super Swamper TSL Radials which are basically just a m/t they were great and I will probably be getting another set. As far as mounting the ladder to the truck, I have a scab plate welded onto the side of the truck at the lowest point of the wheel well with two brackets coming out and tied into the ladder, I can get a pic tomorrow if you'd like. I did the ladder on the side so that I can either climb out my window if I'm stuck in deep water or whatever the situation is, walk along the slider and up the ladder to the roof to grab anything I may need plus as you know our 1st and 2nd gen's have tail gates and not lift gates.

There is zero weight at the very back of the rack with a roof length rack. When I was fabricating my most rear cross bar I litterally stood in the rack and jumped up and down to see how much weight is back there and it just moved the entire truck up and down, all of the weight will be at the front two load bars for sure. My most rear bar has 2 scab plates(for weight distribution) welded to the roof and a cross bar built/welded off of that. If you'd like a pic of that I can get that for you.

I havn't really been on here much or any forum really, I have been creeping around Expedition Portal reading other peoples build ups and trips/planning again alot lately. I have been out alot and traveling here and there to different trails/places/abandoned sites/etc. No real updates on the truck as far as a modification list. Last winter I changed my wheels and tires over to BFG KM2 365/75/16's(37-38's in metric) After 225xxx my beloved 3.0 finally died, I replaced her with a new bored .20 engine runs good as new. ARB awning installed on the passenger side and misc upgrades here and there. Here are some pics from the last few weeks/months of the group heading out. Enjoy.

I have alot of big plans and big travels in mind for 2013... btw IFS is still kicking strong and taking the abuse.

Sometime last year during the hurricane we came across a washed away bridge in one of our travels, I attempted to get to the other side of the trail, but no luck as you can see.
