Pants...

For the same reason safety should be a primary concern with zippers, so is being "drafty" with a button fly.

Clearly, there is no easy answer...

Okay, that's just hilarious. Thanks for the laugh.

A questions, though, about which style is preferred: what do you like more about the Alpine Utility Pant vs. their Original Mountain Pant? The construction methods and fabric appear to be the same.

i've got soem columbia pants that i like alot. for some reason even some of my nicer, casual day pants (jcrew/polo when it's not jeans) compeltely rip out the crotch. i've constantly going through pants. i don't have problems with blowing out knees or the backs of my pants ever though. i'll have to check out those mountain khakis, but at $80 a pop, i'll have to wait a bit to buy them. i usually buy clothes only when they're on sale.

I bought two pairs of Mtn Khaki's for the 2007 Expedition Trophy. They lasted that trip, before both of them developed two pin holes. I returned them to Orvis where I got them no questions asked.

Since then, they seemed to have gained in popularity quite a bit. Maybe I got a defective set, or maybe they (The holes) were caused by an unscrupulous salesperson with a box cutter...Who knows. I do know that they were very comfortable and the pockets were very easy to get in and out of.

Maybe it's time to give them another shot.

I have also started wearing Sitka Ascent Pants in the Dune Color. I can't say enough of them. They feel great, wear great and offer tremendous movement and comfort.

I like a pant that can take a 200 day season through Alaska.

I've got two pair of those Orvis cargos in Zambezi Cloth. I like them a lot and wear them about all the time. Mine weren't anywhere near $210. I also have two pair of Redhead cargos made of a lighter fabric that get a lot of use. I used to buy good heavy cotton twill pants with pleats, double slash front pockets and flapped back pockets from Land Rover Gear. I started buying them about ten years ago and they were very well made and very durable. Over the years they got lighter weight and less well made until they disappeared from their products. Imagine that!

I may take a look at these Duluth ones again.

Only thing there is no fly, so ya gotta pull the front of the pants down to water the shrubs.

I just wish Columbia was still making the GPS cargos.
I bought three pair for work, leisure, and play.
Wearing a pair as I type.
Very comfortable, but with all clothing, they will wear out.
Columbia does not even offer anything close to these at this time.
