Point A is the Junction of Interstate 15 & State Route 138.
Point B is the start of the trail (eastern end of it)
Point C is the end of the trail(western end of it)

Hmm, we are running it East to West. That means a lot of downhill off camber stuff. I've only gone W to E before, this will be like a new adventure! We might hit a lot of traffic coming the other way.

I noticed that we were starting in silverwood too. This is my first real 4x4 trip. I am kinda nervous :Wow1: lol

Do you have an FRS or GMRS radio? Need something. A big part of the trip is the chat that happens while driving the trail.:ylsmoke:

I think I'm still on for this trip, I have a few things to do over the weekend but it should work out.
Ray I think I sent you my number in a pm but I'll text you tomorrow sometime.

I don't have a CB but I have FRS.

I hate to say this (I live 20 mins from Cleghorn), but it is not worth driving from northern CA to run this trail. Not to mention, it's a 1/2 at best to run the whole trail on the hard lines. Don't want to be a downer, but would hate for some of you driving a long way to be disappointed.

I'm with CA-RJ on this. I hope you guys driving down from NorCal are not disappointed with Cleghorn. It's a fun trail and the side trips can be fun but it's not really a long trail. If I may make some suggestions. Instead of going east to west, go the other way and from Silverwood Lake, take Pilot Rock Truck Trail (2N33), stay off 2N17X, it's black diamond. Continue east to Willow Creek. Willow Creek may have some deep ruts but nothing that's off-camber. Willow Creek is scenic and a nice ending at Deep Creek. From there you can backtrack and exit to the backside of Lake Arrowhead. Just don't continue up 3N34 because it leads to Dishpan Springs, it's also black diamond. If this sounds interesting, I can send GPX files and pics.

However, if you still want to start at Silverwood Lake and go west, I'd suggest adding Sugarpine Mtn trail to the trip. It's pretty much all fire road and there is a historic marker to De Anza at one of the peaks. I'm not sure what trail your "D" option is referencing but if it's Lytle Creek, you might want to check if it's open. It was still closed this summer due to storm damage.

Last time I went to the shooting range, the lytle creek trail was still closed. That was about 3 months ago. I am pretty positive it is still closed since there pretty much is no road anymore.

I'm okay with doing the Cleghorn.

The optional trail I'm mentioning starts around Lost Lake (sits on the San Andreas) at 34°16'6.66"N 117°27'45.30"W and runs along the fault.
Here is the area on google maps http://maps.google.com/maps?q=34%C2%B016%276.66%22N+117%C2%B027%2745.30%22W&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sll=34.260054,-117.469254&sspn=0.3615,0.837021&vpsrc=0&t=p&z=15

rxinhed suggested it as an interesting trail. figured I'd go and explore it a bit. He did mention its been a while since he's been there (almost 20 years) so he's not 100% on what it's like these days. If that trail has been shut down we could do Pilot Rock Road trail (moderate difficulty) which would mean doing the Cleghorn West to East then doing Pilot Rock Road on the east side of Silverwood Lake (starts at 34° 14' 16.2"N 117° 17' 22.0"W)
Here's a map of Pilot Rock Road trail... (click on image to go to webshots the click on the Full Size link on the upper right of the image).
