Plunged the second o ring groove:

Chamfered the tube:

And welded it. Also with three beads at the backside:

Turned it down and chamfered it:

Also chamfered the tube:

Some beads later, nine to be exact:

Also reamed my tailstock with a cone reamer to refinish the broken cone:

Wow:Wow1:some really high quality manufacturing you got going there Steinez. We got to get you to Canada soon so we can build some cool rigs...:ylsmoke:

Then you better start building a shop and get some nice metalworking machinery. No, serious, i should have time to go with you next year, if i'm still welcome...

Here's the vid from yesterday:

Started building the ram mounts today:

17516517py.jpg

17516566os.jpg

17516556wo.jpg

17516557km.jpg

Looks good:

17516561nd.jpg

First set finished:

17516585cy.jpg

Needed to bore those parts out. Couldn`t use my mill with the boring head because it`s to big and wouldn`t fit on the table with the big angle plate. So i had to mount the four jaw chuck on the lathe and bore it out. Unfortunately one of the former owners of my lathe messes up the chuck flange pretty bad so it takes me a long time to change chucks. Because of this i thought out something different:

17516591rd.jpg

17516593pj.jpg

17516597ee.jpg

17516625oq.jpg

While this was cooling i turned the bolts for the ram mounts:

17516641cz.jpg

Then i put it in the lathe:

17516643ij.jpg

Finished:

17516645jt.jpg

17516652xs.jpg

17516666tu.jpg

17516669me.jpg

That`s the whole thing:

17516676ah.jpg

The i made the second set of ram mount parts:

17516683ce.jpg

Tacked them together to bore them out. Should have tacked together all four:

17516696wv.jpg

Was quite a bit interesting to set it up in the four jaw:

17516705pt.jpg

Drilled it:

17516721ec.jpg

Because of this setup i couldn`t spin it fast. I only have carbide boring bars and they don`t like cutting speeds this low. So i found an old boring bar i braced on a piece of HSS and now i ground it and it worked flawless:

17516720cm.jpg

Boring it out:

17516721ec.jpg

Finished:

17516731xl.jpg

The puzzle`s finished:

17516759go.jpg

Then i put the next piece in the four jaw:

17516744zt.jpg

And started drilling it:

After Chilliwak in Canada, then straight to Kauai with Wainiha right?:sombrero: Teach me some skills. You are really good. Not just the mechanical side with tools but creative problem solving.

Well Steinez I have just found a new name for you, `Double Chuck´ !!! Who would ever thought of mounting 2 chucks in their lathe like you have? When you talk about going to Canada are we talking 2015? I also have a plan about doing some work in Canada if you want to hear about it. I can certainly see that you now meet my expectations for a machinist or fabricator. Cheers, Chilli....:)

Ok, mister double chuck talks about 2015. He also want`s to hear about your plans. Btw., that`s a cool name, not as good as Chuck Norris, but still good... :ylsmoke:

Bored out all the holes and finished all the part`s for the articulated joint:

17532189gi.jpg

Had to turn the second lock nut first, otherwise i would have to lift the whole articulated joint in the lathe to check for thread fitment:

17532196xt.jpg

17532201ip.jpg

Probably going to press a driveshaft carrier bearing in this part too, but not sure about this. But the thread is finished, can do the other stuff later:

17532203tz.jpg

All the parts for the articulated joint:

17532213jo.jpg

Mocked up the first parts:

17532247lc.jpg

Tacked on:

17532277ir.jpg

Tacked on the swivel heads:

17532289vg.jpg

Put a new belt on the belt sander. Didn`t notice it was sanding slower, but with the new belt it`s a beast...

17532303kj.jpg

Ram mount tacked together:

17532308hk.jpg

First one:

17532356my.jpg

With the ram:

17532390xo.jpg

Second one:

17532417vo.jpg

On the vehicle:

17532441wu.jpg

17532450in.jpg

17532455jh.jpg

Btw., a buddy of me owns a quarry. Since last year Liebherr is testing their heavy duty dumpers there. It was his birthday today, and i talked to the Liebherr engineer who is the supervisor of this testing. He said he will send me a guy with a trailer to pick me and the Quadrotrac up to test drive it there. Now i just need to finish it...

Cut the threads from the rams:

17542602gk.jpg

And tacked on the universal joints:

17542605wz.jpg

Turned some bolts:

17542620mx.jpg

When i`m cutting with the holesaw i always keep the cut out piece:

17542621of.jpg

Just turn it down:

17542622xi.jpg

Make`s a great lock for the bolts:

17542624lw.jpg

Mocked uo the articulated joint:

17542626we.jpg

Had a hard time figuring out how to mount the rams:

17542627ov.jpg

17542628hf.jpg

Now i`m getting about 38° of steering, that`s even 4° more than a Hägglund.

Then i started reinfocing the frame where the articulated joint and the rams attach:

17542631cp.jpg

17542632jh.jpg

17542633kt.jpg

17542634wk.jpg

Then i started building the first ram mount

17542646up.jpg

17542647cn.jpg

Also got those three hydraulic motors. Anyone has a idea what to use those for?:

17542675ak.jpg

Started building the rear part of the driveshaft today, to make sure the pivot is aligned. Cut the flange first:

17549092qm.jpg

17549093lx.jpg

Then welded it up:

17549111kp.jpg

Turned it down:

17549138yo.jpg

Drilled it:

17549141ez.jpg

Bolted it in and aligned the pivot:

17549151ld.jpg

Cut the mounting rails:

17549154cu.jpg

17549175wa.jpg

17549207iq.jpg

Tacked on the first one:

17549178zk.jpg

Tacked on the ram mount, to make sure there`s no interference:

17549182ij.jpg

Looks good:

17549189vb.jpg

There will also be flat stock on the bottom when it`s off the table:

17549203jb.jpg

Made the second ram mount:

17549224tb.jpg

And finished the other side. Need to buy some more flat stock:

17549226fd.jpg

Will be tied into the cage later:

17549242bv.jpg

Cant wait to get it done... :ylsmoke:

Started to mount the last thing to the pivot:

17560879tn.jpg

Made some mounts

17560883gc.jpg

17560930ho.jpg

Tacked them on:

17560940yf.jpg

And set it.

17560943mq.jpg

Like this i get about 48° articulation, for comparison, a Hägglund gets about 34°.
