Interesting perspective to say the least.
If you do create this please do the rest of us a favour and prevent it from being included in the New Posts search. By "us" I obviously mean the small minority of international people who don't qualify as having/needing/wanting rights or those (very few) who don't agree with the predictable talking heads.

In fact allowing a tailorable New Posts search and allowing us to set a preference as to which sub-sections are searched by that button where we could select/deselect ones we don't want to see would make a world of difference. I don't choose to view the "Sportsman" forum but these posts which I find offensive or just plain ridiculous come up in my standard way of viewing activity and identifying interesting travel posts.

The obsessives could keep their rhetoric and mutual self-assurance to a section that isn't advertised to the normal community. Anyone who wandered in couldn't do it accidentally and therefore would engage knowing what they'd be in for.

Wow, I wonder where this comes from? I thought everyone knew that as a member of ExPo you aren't required to read every thread. If it isn't a subject of interest to you that you don't need to read it.

Hi,

reading means thinking ( I hope) means answering ( sometimes) and this can be a problem.

If the answer is given with a different view and a different culturall Backround maybe some Users are not
like what we think, and then is the reaction: keep Out of this Thread, were not intrested to hear what you say...

So, yes maybe it is easier to going in your little jungle and have no opposite words from overseas in there.

But maybe its a Little boring when everybody looking in the same direction:ylsmoke:

I like "The Jungle" how about a political jungle and a religious jungle? It could be lightly moderated and anyone going in there needs to have a flame suit on and be ready to get ripped up.
Even if it is "The Jungle" each person should be respectful and act like we are talking in person. It's easy to hide behind a keyboard and act like a tough guy.

I would prefer not having my new posts searches censored based on someone else's preferences. Not a fan of censorship.

Yea, that would be great if vBulletin could do it, because I honestly could not care less if Lance Armstrong doped.

EDIT: But on reflection, I'm also a lazy SOB so I probably wouldn't even bother setting up the filters if we had them.

That's not the the intent at all. The previous issues/attitudes would not exist if in a different sub-forum with relaxed rules. I'd love to politely discuss all topics with all members.

I agree. While the particular topic that started the desire for a "Jungle" forum, so to speak, is one that is exclusive to the United States, I'm still interested in discussing and/or debating (not arguing) said topic with anyone, from anywhere.

I don't understand the political climate of many regions in the world, and I don't expect a lot of people fully grasp ours.

With a separate forum for such, there could be a thread concerning Australia's current affairs, another for the UK, another for the USA, etc.

Folks who would rather not read/involve themselves with it, wouldn't have to open the thread and read it.

Much like I do with the aforementioned Lance Armstrong Doping thread. :snorkel:

I agree with keeping the same rules on being civil that ExPo already has in place, and having an "XX" amount of posts, and "X" amount of time as a forum member would be a good thing, as new users would then already know what behavior is expected on the forums, before they ventured into said "Jungle"

Scott Brady - This Jungle section is a terrible idea - what on earth does it have to do the EXPO mission? These guys are just hot to spew & are bored with all the expo related stuff...
Stay focused man...EXPO is in danger of getting unfocused as it is with so many sections. If anything EXPO needs some trimming...IMHO.

Keep up the good work & keep politics & religion out of EXPO! Thanks. Moe

FWIW, grizzlyj and I continued our discussion started in the closed GOA thread in PMs, and it went well. I would buy him a pint any time. But I'm sorry if my post in the thread contributed to its closing.

I think a spot for where one can post their honest, but not ignorant, feelings on any subject without fear of possibly offending one of the 63,000+ members here is a good idea. Couching ones words becomes a roadblock to freely sharing ideas, expressing who you truly are or in telling it like it is. We all live in bubbles of our own reality crafted from our upbringing and worldly experiences. As we bump and crash into each other's realms around this photonic campfire, sometimes realities can not mix and flare-ups happen. It happens, such is life. Learn to deal with it 'cause where one reality can be a harsh mistress..mutlitudes of them are a pack of raging chimps.

While I probably won't hang out in a "Jungle" forum to much as I try to merely observe most hot button topics, it would be nice to have a spot to share my "reality" with those that are interested in it when something comes up that I'm passionate about. While that may lead to being challenged or even dismissed it is actually a good thing, it keeps you humble. Humility is in sort order these days.

As a side note...You know I've never added a person to an ignore list no matter how poorly I though of a person, because no matter how polar opposite a person is from you sometimes they grant some insight to a view point that you hadn't ever consider.

Edit...Personally I would like to see the Sportsman section become more about the experiences, heritage, and companionship of the pursuit of game and firearms ownership than the endless political debate and grandstanding it has become of late. The recent bird hunters thread was a fine example of the quality discussions that can be had between diverse members of the Forum.
