Thanks Haven, but that's not what I was getting at. I am pretty sure Scott understood what I was trying to say, (regardless of the Newtown thread having been previously closed) so I will leave it alone. Of course, maybe I am not being as clear as I think I am. In that case, someone just say so.

I Agree with TACODOC!

Sure I can go other places to discuss political happenings, I can even debate economics with my 5yr old but.....

Can we really consider ourselves friends if we don't care to share or hear each others opinions? I understand that political diatribe can degenerate, and it shouldn't spill out to the sponsors, or general forum.

Make a rule that posts without the following; empathy, self-control, a sense of fairness, reason, and rationality can be deleted, and the user banned from the section.

We've built quite a community of like minded folks here, is it possible we could make a sub-forum where we could speak about what's REALLY going on in our world without fear of being banned or deleted?

I think this is a great idea. I would like to have an area where we could see a little more honesty and not so much calculated posturing and skirting issues of depth. I would like to be able to have meaningful discussions about issues that have more complexity than whether or not I should buy a Land Rover. This is a group I identify with, like minded if you will, these are people's opinions I want to probe on issues of concern to our society.

As a moderator I get sick of coming here just to take a whack at Spam.....I would be happy to gently moderate "The Jungle" based on the simple rules of:
No name calling...such as "you are an idiot for thinking _____", or "only a dork would believe in ______"
No personal attacks or insults....such as "let's meet at camp and I will show you who is right" or "you would not dare say that to my face"
No foul language or sexy pics....some conversions might require graphic images like a discussion on the risk of traveling in tribal areas and the injuries that result, but fair warning should be given. Besides it would be a restricted place so your 5yr old should not be looking around there.
Nothing illegal or talk of illegal action such as how to mod your semi auto to full, how to grow your own ____ or such.

Besides I desperately want a place among people I already chat with to talk about this stuff

This is taking a step in the right direction (no pun intended). Like a few mentioned earlier, some of my best lifelong friends, have totally different views and beliefs than myself. And that is what I love about them. We can still talk shop and have an intelligent political/ religious conversation, sensibly.

By "us" I obviously mean the small minority of international people who don't qualify as having/needing/wanting rights or those (very few) who don't agree with the predictable talking heads.

In fact allowing a tailorable New Posts search and allowing us to set a preference as to which sub-sections are searched by that button where we could select/deselect ones we don't want to see would make a world of difference. I don't choose to view the "Sportsman" forum but these posts which I find offensive or just plain ridiculous come up in my standard way of viewing activity and identifying interesting travel posts.

If it's unde the "New Posts" tab, that only shows you 2 things.

1: The title of the thread

2: the area of the thread, ie: Expedition Trailers, Jeep, or 'Jungle'

If it says 'Jungle', simply do not open that thread!

That is what I do, as I always hit the 'New Posts' tab. I usually skip over the Motorcycle forums, and the bicycle forums, as those things are not what I am into.

It's really quite simple to do.

Geeeezzzzz! I have been waiting for the goverment to have someone at the front door of McDonalds to slap me when I try to walk in, so I am not tempted to eat a burger and fries. If only they could make the restaurant invisible, than I wouldn't even have to see it as I drive by, thus saving me from gaining weight!

If anything, the spirit of compromise is important to making this work and both mods and members won't have to slink off to some non-Overland forum to have adult discussions.

Speaking from experience, I'd say no more than one warning from a Mod in 6 months, LOL
