Johnson Well is just a hair inside the range, and it's going to be worth checking out. Our routes just barely bring us inside the range, but in addition to the permits being insurance Uncle Sam provides us with a combination to some locked gates.

OK, I'll make some calls and see what it will take for me to get apermit from Gila Bend on my way to our meet. Could be interesting.

I need some more specifics. The permits as I remember required a personal office visit somewhere. Can someone please update as to what we will need very specifically? I'll never be able to make it out of work during work hours this week.

OK, I just got off the phone with Luke AFB. They said the Johnson well area is in their "Hot" zone and the entire eastern side of the range will be active all weekend. He said the only area permits that would be issued are for their recreational area on the western side of the range. He also said there is an active Boarder patrol camp at Johnson Well. His recomendation was to play outside the range area. :pROFSheriffHL:

PS. Thier number for Gila Bend DOD is 928-683-6200 (Luke AFB Security)

For PHX members you can get the permits at the BML office on the 8th floor downtown or the Deer Valley location.

Only Deer Valley now, downtown no longer does the videos.

Based on Brad's research, I'm going to say that it's best if we just stay out of the range. That won't be tough because my anticipated route area only crosses into it by a smidge. We can avoid it altogether.

I think that's reasonable.

EDIT:
To be clear, we'll stay out of the Sand Tank Mountains and stay closer to the Table Top Wilderness area and just to the west of it in the Vekol Valley. Plenty of exploration to do there.

Sweet. Radar says the desert area where we plan to explore this weekend is getting some nice rain today. Should make for a happy desert. :wings:

Re-cap:
  1. No permit needed; we're staying out of the bombing range
  2. Pskhaat is coming to meet us on Saturday morning
  3. The SWR has a new engine and may be meeting us
  4. Eurorom might be making the trip from El Paso

Any of that false?

Gracias

Since Scott hasn't beaten me yet for stealing his recipe, I'll cook Tequila Tomatoes as an appetizer Saturday night. :D

I'll haul all the canvas for the mountain Chalet (king Kamper) so if the weather is rude we can hunker down inside a fort.

It looks like "camp 3" would be pretty protected in a canyon between two hills so if it's windy on Saturday we can hunker down there and just sip a few. Obviously for the new moms we will whip up some hot chocolate or whatever fits their fancy.

I think your chalet needs one more addition, your foot print isn't quite large enough yet.LOL

MAYBE, WE COULD JUST HOST THE ENTIRE RALLY THIS YEAR RIGHT IN YOUR HAULER!!

Food for thought...

Ok since Brad is going to be cooking up an appetizer on Saturday night, want to do a pot luck type thing for dinner on Saturday night?

Sounds like a good idea to me. How many people do we now have that plan on coming this weekend?

I'll update the first post with the list of people and offerings. If Seth has the ceviche, I'll get on the dippin' salsa, Brad's got the tequila tomatoes . . . we'll be rockin. Oh yeah, I put Wil down for roasted duck with the mango salsa.

Bring your own plates and flatware. I'm tired of doing camp dishes :REExeSquatsHL1:
