The design as we go M-101A1 Trailer build

Had more cabinet stuff to get through today so only had time to rough in one of the storage doors. I was contemplating bending everything around the edges but decided to make a super solid frame out of aluminum stock. It's 5/8" thick x 1 3/4" all the way around so it will almost be impossible to pry it open. Not that there is anything of value other than shower and whatever else I decide to store in there. I'm not completely sold on the overall look as it sticks out from the shell quite a bit but I'll think about it over night and attack it more this weekend.

Guess what I decided today?! Rattle can bedliner from harbor freight...plus coupons and I think the result is pretty good. I plastidipped my truck rims after the powder coat started to Fade and while it looked good the stuff comes off easily. I have high hopes for this but regardless... Touch up on flat black rims is a cinch...

Put on like 5 or 6 layers of PlastiDip and give it a week or so to fully set to judge. I did my wheels and they have held up for over a year with heavy off roading and a limited set of car washes.

I don't mind the plastidip. It's just that on my truck I was not able to take the brake dust off the plastidip when I washed the car..so the front rims are a dull flat black and the rear is still pretty black. I agree the plastidip holds up ok but since these cans were cheaper at Harbor Freight I decided to go with the more durable of the two choices. Time will tell

Glad I didn't start cutting openings for the roof vents. I had the panel on the back of my truck on the tonneau cover and may keep it mounted there as I can easily wire the panel to the solar controller that will be mounted in the tongue box. This is just rough position that will be on quick release mounts so if we are camping in the shade we can easily move the panel to sunlight. Sorry about the glare...it's raining like crazy in LA right now but it's much needed and heading up to the snow soon to get some turns in! Yahoo!

Looked at some other trailers on expo today and made some executive decisions to black out trim and diamond plate. I think it will look pretty good in the end but if it doesn't and I have to black out everything I certainly won't be mad at that.

I might also have to change my positioning of the brake lights. I was going to put them up high but since that part moves up and down if have to have wiring that can accommodate the extra length when raised so with that I just may mount to the trailer and make life a little easier. Will see though as I like to make sure the lights will be highly visible. Got the Harbor Freight LED's over the weekend so I can mock them up to see how everything will look light wise.

Hey! I thought you were going to mirror polish the aluminum?

No thanks Mark I've had enough of working with the Airstream's. Just kidding. I'm actually about to pick up 4 31' sovereigns and excella's but have to find the time to actually get them from where they are. It will be quite a task because only two of them are semi-towable right now

I would like to see the work on the 4 new ones too!

That will be a while. we have a few airstreams on our lot and they're all getting work done. The ones that i'm getting have front end damage from palm trees falling on them but the interiors are immaculate but i'll be gutting them anyway.. I still don't know why pics aren't rotating correctly but here is an idea of what they look like.

They are awesome! That brings my airstream ownership to 7 and I do believe they call it aluminitus!
