I never got or found any clear info on the best tire chains to buy last year. We are running the chains from Les Schwab (Tire Store). I like the fact that you can install them if you are stuck and they are easy to install and go on like the populate RUD Grip 4x4 chains I also like that they are the diamond pattern. What I don’t like is that they are made in China and they have a very small chain.
I am looking for something like these chains, but are bigger or the chain is bigger. It seems to be difficult to find specs on chains and whether or not you can get them in a 35x12.5 tire size. After some research and comparison I think the ones I have from the schwab are only 3.7mm chain.
I have 2 older sets for 31” tires that we now use for my moms cruiser. One is the WhiteStar LT by Security and the Diamond back LT by Quality chain Corp. The WhiteStar is a good chain but the outside is held together or tightened by a extra large rubber tensioner only, that takes so much strength, so most women, and guys like Doug can’t use it. However it is a little bigger chain so I think it is a 4.5mm. The other set is the biggest set, or the chain link is the biggest, most likely 5.5mm . Nether of these chains seem to be made for a 35”x 12.5” tire.
If the RUD chain co. makes one for a 35” tire it looks like it uses a 4.5mm chain.
I am looking for something better then what I have. What do you all know?
Maybe I just need a snow cat?
