I'm game for an Ecoboost swap. Who wants to bring their van in? :)

Wait a bit and you may be able to get the 10-speed auto with that engine.

With the current frustration levels my van has been giving me lately I'm almost tempted to do that EcoBoost swap. I'm glad I don't have the money... I love my 7.3

That would be cool! But, I'm definitely not game for it! I'll let someone else take the plunge.

I am tempted to get a new cab/chassis E series with the 6.2 and 6 speed tranny though.

Chris, any thoughts on swapping an Eco Boost V6 in place of a 5.4? They seem to be decent motors, just very under powered or maybe under- tuned, if that is a word.

A stock 3.5L V6 Eco Boost makes 365 HP and 420 TQ, with good area under curve due to the turbos. A stock 5.4 Triton makes 235 HP and 335 TQ (up to 2010) and then 310 HP and 365 TQ from 2010 on due to a new head design IIRC.

As I am sure you are aware, very basic bolt on components for the Eco Boost will yield appreciable gains. (Full Race Stage One Package)

Final Result of Test 1 (add Tune only): 421WTQ and 347WHP Gains: +125wtq/+70whp @3000rpm and +75wtq/+60whp @4000rpm

Using a 17% driveline loss for a 4WD truck, that gives you about 420 HP and 500 foot pounds of torque. I would not expect diesel MPG, but gas is cheaper than diesel in many places. The 7.3's whilst loved dearly by many are 15+ years old now. In that time, massive improvements have been made in turbo gasoline engine tech by the OEM's. Just a thought in a case where a customer may be considering a majour overhaul or a diesel rebuild (7.3 or 6.0 fix)

Do you have a link to the engine changes over the years? all i found was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Modular_engine no mention of 2011 changes for the 5.4

UJOR swap without lift?

I'm about to pull the trigger on an E350 with plans to do a UJOR 6" swap. I've got good mechanical skills - engine rebuilds, suspension swaps, engine swaps and some budding fabrication skills, but woke up in a sweat last night thinking, holy ******t, can I do it without a lift? I have a couple 18-20" 3 ton floor jacks, bottle jacks, jack stands, and access to a tranny jack. Have mig, tig, plasma.

So, what do you think, can it be done without a lift?
TIA
Steve

Hey Steve,

I just did the same thing, 94 E350 IDI with a UJOR 6". Pretty similar background and tools as you, minus the plasma..I would say it is generally easier than I expected. I do not have a lift. I built a small cart on casters that my axles were on so I could reposition them easily, and simply lowered the van down onto the axle. Other than that, everything else is pretty straightforward.

Pull the trigger!

And make sure you have a few extra back up dollars handy;) These things are somewhat of a money pit during the build phase I have noticed!
