Q&A...
…if you have to get up during the night, then the other person does too. Yea, you could unzip and go down a ladder, but where are you going to pack that?
Based on a couple nights camping, one can climb out on the spare tire pretty easy if going down through a hatch panel is not convenient. Alternately, a couple small bars on the side would be an easy way up/down in addition to the rear wheel. There are 2 hatch panels on both the Habitat & J30, (like what is used on the ECamper) to allow one to climb out while a companion is dozing away.
when do I have to forget about looking online for a roof rack and additional RTT for my JKU? When you'll switch from prototype to the marketable product for the JKU?
Depending how everything lines up in production, should start shipping Feb 2012 +/-, pricing being updated on the website.
What is the weight a J30 JK Pop-up can hold?
Sleeping area should be good to 450 lbs total +/-, rack mounts from Thule/Yakima are rated at 75 lb per bar. Much like our other pop up, the lift for the top is manual, once you’re over about 40 lbs on the bars it’ll take some muscle to get up/down but can be done.
A J30 JK pop-up version for the short JK in sight
We’ll see how the various Jeep Unlimited campers do before expanding to other sizes..
I wonder if this top can be used without the rear part of the roll bar? I doubt it as I suspect that the roll bar is what actually holds the bed up. Removing the roll bar would allow much better usage of the space in the back area.
Neither the Habitat nor the J30 utilize the rear roll cage for support, so it could be removed by the Jeep owner. We’re not going to recommend doing that, but if you need/want more room without warranty or safety concerns, one option would be to do a JK8-Independence conversion which would clear out the whole back of the JK for more features like what you might see in the Earthroamer or ActionCamper.
