Ok Ok where the hell have I been? I didn't know you were even considering a flippac.
Your rig is looking sweet!
If you head to Desert Rendezvous I think we need to have a flippac parking area.
Looking forward to seeing you guys there.

Really?

You sent me a PM about it when I first announced my decision in this thread. We also talked about it during the Mountain Rendezvous. Are you feeling ok? Thanks for the compliment though.

need a shot from the inside!!

what happened to the RTT btw :spy:

It's a blank slate right now, but I can put some pictures up later. The RTT rack will be going up for sale and the RTT itself will be kept for use with the Xterra. If we decide later that we'd be unlikley to use it, it will be sold as well.

Great thread! I have a man crush on your truck!
Two questions if you don't mind,
Are you happy with the flip compared to the rtt?
What kind of mileage do you get, and how did the re-gear affect that?

I have a similar setup to yours ( 01 2.7 rtt w/short rack & 4:30's turning 255's) I'm considering a gear change and possibly a flipac, but the t-top tent with the ground level room and easy bed access will be a hard loss.

YES! I'm much happier with the Flip-pac. Truth is, except for the quality (read: thick tent fabric) and how comfortable I was on its mattress, I ended up hating the RTT. I was at a point that I probably would've been happier with a quality ground tent, but even that wouldn't fix my situation with the dogs. I needed to switch to something that would allow me to take them with me, and they're not small. The Flip-pac provides enclosed shelter for them and quick and easy set-up/pack-up.

I still haven't established what kind of hit I've taken with my gas mileage yet. I would guess 1-2 mpg. I was seeing just over 17 MPG on the highway fully loaded with the RTT and 4.88's (70-75 mph) You'll need to look at changing your driving habits if you're one of those people that stress out about seeing their engine sit around or over 3000 rpm. The 3RZ will happily buzz along all day without complaint.

Don't forget that you wouldn't be losing the changing room area with a Flip-pac. It will just migrate into your bed. Add a couple of windoors and the easy access to your bed won't really be lost either.

Thanks Robert! I was thinking you weren't going to make it this weekend for some reason... Glad you'll be there. I'll be happy to give you the grand tour as long as I can get a copy of 4WDTO signed by you. :D

Also, I think even Dave would be wishing he was single and without kids if he saw a flip-pac on your truck.

Good points on the Flip-pac! What did your mileage do when you switched from the 4:30's to the 4:88's? I agree these motors love to spin.

I saw a slight increase in city and a slight decrease on hwy. I think my mileage was around 18 mpg at the time. You'll feel a big change starting from a dead stop or driving on the trail.

After spending plenty of time in the back of the truck during the weekend at the Desert Rendezvous I feel I have a good plan on the way for building out the back of the bed. A few things will need to be addressed first, but I'm going to be pushing to get this started soon.

Here's a cool shot of Fish Creek Canyon during a run to Sandstone Canyon. All part of the fun from this years Desert Rendezvous!
