What a perfect first time jeeping adventure! I asked to tag along with Rich and Tom so that I might learn some technical maneuvers before attempting the Rubicon. Although there wasn’t a lot of rough terrain to maneuver, I learned that there is much more to “jeeping” than getting from point A to point B. There is the building of ALL that character! Any incident that was slightly less than comfortable was put into the category of “building character.” Seven hours of driving with boys who insist the jeep have no top……building character. Three nights of temps lower than freezing in a bag rated 40 degrees…..building character. Waking up to a frozen water bottle next to me…..yes…more character. I have much to learn! But I can’t think of a better group of people to learn with. It was wonderful meeting all of you. Thank you for helping create such amazing memories. Thank you, Jim, for organizing the event. I hope to join you all again soon. I must confess, my favorite part of the trip was watching Rich take a turn in the back seat on the way home. Envision this size large man trying to squeeze into my size small ski jacket while teeth were chattering…….ah yes…building character. I will say no more…….

Thanks for making the LONG drive from San Diego! Seven hours in an open top Jeep with those two characters is enough to build some backbone in anyone!! i wish that we had a picture of you driving the Rmarz Jeep. This is the only close up shot that I have on my blog and you are hiding in the back

Someone has excellant taste. Bibler I-tent is awesome. I invested in my 12 years ago and still getting dividends from it.

Looks like a great trip and fun was had by all...well except one anyway.

The two tires that got whacked happened at the strangest times. The Tacoma got its flat in a spot that 5 other vehicles had just passed through. The trailer tire was much the same story. It seems totally random that it happened to them and not me when I was leading the group. I still owe CynRat his trip "steekers" too.

It is nice that Black Diamond did not kill Bibler when they purchased that line. I once spent a stormy night at 10k feet with two other climbers in one of those little tents and it did not burst at the seams!

Awesome trip report! I did this same exact trip with friends over Easter weekend for my birthday. We came into Papoose via "The Narrows" due to a wrong turn, but it just added to the fun. You guys even camped in the exact same spot over looking the Flats that we did, that is an great camping spot. I can only imagine what the super moon looked like coming over the ridge line to the east of your camp site :Wow1:

Thanks! We had quite a time getting to that exact camp spot. We looked at 3 other suggested spots but they were just too small for our group. Our scouting party ended up discovering the final spot we stayed at and the moon did indeed look spectacular as it came over the peaks to the east!

Hahaha! That plus my water bottle. If only I had realized that the mine was farther than we had all expected earlier. Oh well, at least I passed on the message to Mim and Lisa that the rest of the group was going to take a while to return so they weren't left hanging.

And he missed out on this cool old mine!

That gives me the excuse to go back to explore the area some more.

The I-tent is a pleasure to pack compared to my heavy Mountain Hardware Trango 2. I like backpacking & mountaineering so most of the gear is lightweight and compact. I also don't own a 3 season tent so during warmer temps I just sleep outside with a bag on a tarp.

Water bottle what? We don't need no water bottles!
