There's something to be said for using an exceptionally crafted tool like that.

We do have the vistas, this is true. It's a completely different atmosphere. Sometimes it feels like a different country! I'm sure Gettysburg will be a great experience. Americans sure do know how to keep a historical site.

The Civil War isn't tops on my list of war interest (rebels fighting rebels? :26_7_2: ....I kid, honestly, little British Empire humour (i even spelled humour properly )

... but you can't deny the allure of Gettysburg, one of (if not THE) most famous battles on American Soil.

Haha love it! You're right too. By the way, if you want ro go full on British, then it would be "spelt".

I can imagine that it's not the biggest interest to you, being from Canada. To Americans it's about a critical time in our evolution as a nation. From a historical standpoint, you hit the nail on the head. Gettysburg is one of the most bloody and famous battles ever fought on US soil. The Civil War killed more Americans than any war we ever got involved in, and I think that's part of why it resonates with us so much.

In fact, folks in the south are still sore about it. In the southern US, it's not the "Civil War". They call it the "War Between the States." We're still Yankees to them. It's interesting how that underlying animosity seems to hang around.

I have a tendancy towards British history especially Colonial and the Civil War us right in the middle of the time period and is very interesting!

You will get lots of pictures. We plan to spend at least one full day there

My Fiskar is nice but that's a nice axe!

Those Danners are nice too...do they allow enough ventilation being all leather for all day use/hike/work/driving etc? As I age I realize that my chicken-leg ankles need more support when out and about on uneven terrain. I don't want to spend too much $$ as I still prefer light weight running type shoes with memory foam insoles for normal everyday wear.

They aren't actually stuffy and hot like you would think

With midweight wool socks im fine hiking around in our summer weather all day. This weather has been cooler but still seen temps in the 90s.

Cant comment on southern California heat though. They sure are comfortable. I have an on going review thread over in the clothing section of the forum.

Fascinating indeed. Always interesting to think what would have happened if the British had reduced their taxes etc and the Revolutionary War had never happened or they had defeated the Americans. What a big country we would be together now.

Now there's an interesting scenario. I wonder if we would quite be where we are today. I suspect a higher percentage of the worlds population would be driving on the left.

The Mountain Lights are pretty similar while being a little taller and having the fabric side panels. Exact same outsole which I love. So grippy and a nice blend of flex and stiffness.

The Mountain Lights are 5" which I like for all day use especially in and out of the truck. The stitched sole does make for a wider footprint in the pedal area.

I misread, thought you had said the Danner Lights. The Mountain Light and Mountain Light II are very similar

They don't come with insoles just the airthotic plastic heel cup. Which wasn't bad. I ended up getting the full length dannr insoles and have been very happy with them. I don't like too much support!
