Lets see cargo area storage mods

I thought there would be a thread on this already, but couldn't find one searching. If there is one, feel free to link to it.

I want to see what people have done to organize and store gear in the rear cargo area. Things like drawers, lockboxes, instatrunks, etc. I have seen some cool ones on here, but there isn't any thread dedicated to storage solutions that I could find. Storage is a big issue with the Jeeps, so I know I'm not the only one trying to get ideas for optimizing the available space.

All I have is a shelf/divider, but it helps a lot to avoid having to dig through all your junk to get to one item. I built it out of spare wood that was laying around, so it was free. What do y'all have?

I used to have a shelf in my JKU, but then I bought a couple of wolfpacks and relalized I didnt need it. The shelf takes up space too. With the wolfpacks i have a uniform place to stack stuff. Also I moved all our sleeping bags (3) to a duffle. Keeps them together and I throw the strap over the headrest to keep it in place.

Of course I have the luxury of more space in the jku, especially with the cubby in the bottom of the trunk. The just of what I am trying to say is uniform size containers that fit and less bulky gear has made it easier on us. Besides I can move it all to another vehicle if I need to.

Howdy

Sometimes I drive alone, sometimes I have a photographer in the back, sometimes I have 5 people in, sometimes I want to sleep in the JKU so I need it to be flexible.

Drawers would be cool but very expensive here in Sweden, would not be abile to sleep in the vehicle, takes alot of space, weigh alot, but probably is very practical.

I went with a Front runner interior rack. We have a vendor here in Sweden for it and it cost alot och weigh much and take up some space. It is easy to install and it can be mounted so high so my 40 liters and 25 liters Waeco fridge will fit and I can still open the lid under the shelf as I dont want to have a fridge slide because it would be problematic to sleep on.

Other benifits with a rack like this is that stuff under is hidden against the outside world and it gets easier to pack up to the roof.

Here is the frontrunner interior rack.

My other reason for this rack is to put my stuff on it to free space on the floor to sleep there, not tried that yet.

Sleeping arangement

The shelf can be a table I hope, not tried it yet but imagine to have table in front of You where you can have your laptop, snacks, drinks etc on.

Before I had a 2 door and had some very nice bags that sadly do not fit a 4 door, bestop sadle bags.

I mounted one bag to the bracket under the shelf on booth sides, left and right to the against the cargo wall with zipties. A lousy fit, but holds some sleeping bags, kitchen etc. I had them so why not try to use them.

I have the trailgater tailgate table.

Wheen folded there are a very small storage

So this things on table fits there and maybe some more would fit.

I removed the back seat and had a friend build a deck to create a flat floor with storage underneath. There is now a Tuffy box in the far back for secure storage, with more storage on the top of the box...and the Trek Armor seat covers provide additional storage. The 63-qt ARB is in the Jeep 24/7 and fits perfectly between the seat and the Tuffy box

My TJ has been through about 100 different rear cargo configurations, but I'm finally happy with it. The folding seat and table in the back make much better use of the space and can be folded out of the way at anytime leaving a wide open cargo space for large items. On the back I made a small folding tray that hangs on my spare tire and above the tire, I have a rack and waterproof box that can be switched in and out.

Where did you source the folding jumpseat from? Seems pretty much perfect.

It's the rear seat out of a 1995 Mitsubishi Montero. I built the bracket that it mounts to out of 3/16" stainless, it bolts to the four original seat mounts in the floor and two bolts go through the top of the fender well to a backing plate. The seat and folding table, which also bolts to the stock seat mounts, can be removed in about five minutes and the stock seat can be put back in if I need it.
