The photo on the left is the additional crossmember; a side rail reinforcement is visible on the right.

Jeff, does your under fram additional supports go the full length between the control arms? Also, what did you do about brake lines and fuel lines? I'm curious if one considers the idea of frequently pulling a 2-3000 # trailer with, say, a small motorcycle in the bed (maybe a total of 500#'s of gear) if the frame would handle it, or if something like a small truck woudl be a better platform. Love the 'brute' being on the TJ platform, just wondering about longevity and time induced metal fatigue.

The frame doublers run from the rear control arm mounts up to the back of the transfer case skid plate. This is sufficient to eliminate the flex caused by the lengthened frame and didn't require modifications to the skid plate or transfer case mount.

When lengthening the frame I had to also lengthen the brake lines, fuel lines, wiring to the rear, the driveshaft and the emergency brake mechanism.

I've put about 85,000 miles since I did the pickup conversion and I regularly carry loads in the bed and I have no worries about the truck's ability or longevity. I have two different trailers that I regularly tow with it and although neither one ever gets over about 1500 lbs. with a load I'd be comfortable towing up to the LJ's rated tow capacity of 3500 lbs.

Have you ever considered comparing a JK frame with your welded extended frame? Thinking that might be a easier and stronger way to go. Although, it would certainly cause other complications...

No, I never considered that. My frame extension was very easy - I bought an LJ frame that had been wrecked in the front, cut it as long as possible from the back along the parallel section in the center of the frame, then cut my existing frame as long as possible in the parallel section, and joined the two parts so I achieved a lengthened frame with only one joint.

Do you suppose one would want to also consider strengthening the entire frame if your already strengthen between the control arms?

With all the loads I've carried and all the things I've towed and all the miles I've done I've never had any concern about the strength of my frame.
