I assume you are in North America?

The Hilux is the same truck as our Pickup in those years, just with some limitations on available models and options. The 1984 through 1995 XtraCab is the same worldwide. We did not get a Hilux Double Cab in the USA.

The trucks would have had the L-series diesel as well as the various 22R or later the 3VZ. We got the 22R, 22R-E and 3VZ-FE. Around the world they also got a 2L, 2L-T and 2L-TE. Less common would have been a 3L and the 5L-TE. The L diesel is an OK motor, but not one of the ones people point to as high points of Toyota engines. It's sort of the diesel equivalent of the 22R, a workhorse but don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry.

If you want a diesel, they are showing up fairly often in Canada and will most likely be RHD JDM trucks. But if you are OK with a LHD, then open up the classifieds and find the nicest Pickup you can and you gotcha a Hilux. If you want a diesel with a minimum of title hassle, get a half cut 2L-TE and swap it in for the 22R or better do the 1KZ-TE from a 1996 and newer Hilux (which we never got in NA). The 1KZ is by all accounts a much better engine, just like the 3RZ-FE 2.7L gasoline is a major improvement.

Ya, thanks. I got all that actually. I'm specifically looking to see if any stock diesel x-cab (Left or RHD) are available worldwide...I'm trying to find this configuration to avoid modification as regard to engine swap & transfer my existing flatdeck/camper tailored for x-cab dimension.

Since i'm in canada, if I can ideally find one 15yrs old or older, i'm set for import.

Question is, does such stock diesel x-cab exist? Similar to this current lineup of 4wd extra-cab Toyota Hilux in Belize. (http://www.toyota-caribbean.com/cars/new_cars/hilux_imv/index.asp)

be careful with the 2ltE they are notorious for having head gasket problems. Alot of the hilux Surfs(4runner) that were imported are having this problems with a $2-3,000 fix for a new head!

Starting in '93 they started to come with the next series of diesels the 3KZ (I think thats what its called)

You will have to custom import an extended cab as most of the hilux's that came in are quad cabs as we never got them
