OzTent/Rhino Rack Foxwing awning--Available in the U.S.?

I'm impressed by the potential benefits of the Rhino-Rack Foxwing awning, but don't want to drool over it any more if it's not available here.

I got pretty far down the Google results without finding a link that didn't have .au at the end. Can I get this awning at a reasonable price, either from a US source or an Australian supplier with a well-established export department?

I saw it in action in Germany and I grabed info from the owner of the company (they are from Oz but were at the show).
I ask about a USA dist and he said they had someone new out of Colorado (I think). Give me a couple of days to look over the material and I will post up what I find.
The only downside I saw to the system was that:
1) you need 2 people for setup if it is windy or the thing will fly over your rig and be ruined.
2) you have to use the guy ropes if there is any wind (not a major thing but I hate tripping over the ropes).

I think the Foxwing is super cool, give an amazing amout of shade and would be perfect if rain is ever a concern. I only got to spend a couple of minutes checking it out, but the demo was worth seeing. And the company seems pretty cool.

Thanks, buddy. I appreciate the insights. Good point about the deployment in the wind. That would be one hard-to-manage muthuh in a stiff breeze, wouldn't it.

That is a really cool system, I noticed prices on the Aussie site but none on the us site, my guess it wont be cheap.

Can the poles fit inside the awnings main rack mounted bag? Or do they have to go in the vehicle. Are they ready for immediate shipment?

With my rv 4 I can fit my tent, front awning panel, deluxe side panels and poles in the bag. Thankfuly Oztent was generous enough that if you pack it smartly it will fit.

We've been talking about getting an awning for the Tundra for the last couple of months but haven't really decide on one yet. Then Michelle saw the Foxwing in the OJ and got excited about it. "Look! It even will cover the tailgate! That's to cool!" Definitely really interested in this one!

One question though. It's hard to tell on the OzTent website, but I assume the awning cover is a hard case right? If so, what material is it made of?

No, it's not a hard shell. It's a zip-around cover made of a strudy enough black nylon material (kind of halfway between ballistic nylon and ripstop) with zippers around the sides and bottom. It works well enough. There's enough slack in the cover that you don't have to bust a gut to get it over the poles and then zipped.

One thing to note as you are considering a Foxwing is whether you will be able to reach over the top to wrangle the cover. This is a big awning that has to be very securely mounted, and if you have a lifted vehicle and put it on a roof rack, you may be looking at a step stool being needed to reach high enough to flip the cover over and off of the six stored poles.

Thanks for the heads up Mike.

My Tundra doesn't have a big lift so reaching the rack is no problem for me, but a soft cover is worrisome. The trees back here like to "hug" passing trucks, adding organic pinstripes to paint and custom tailoring to things with cloth covers. It'll be a long winter and I'll look for post on how these Foxwings work for the first folks to try them before pulling the trigger on one.

Ok so I talked with Randy at Oztent U.S. today. A Foxwing is officially on order. :wings: Looking forward to getting this in and set up. I will be doing a full review on the system as I did on my Oztent so everyone can get the skinny on it.

If it is anything like the RV-4 I own then this will be a really great unit. I am going to be installing it on my Burb. Since the new baby the burb is slowly becoming the new rig.

I looked at the foxwing at the Outdoor Retailers Show in SLC this summer. One feature that I really liked is that you can attach your front awning from your OzTent to it! I played with it for some time and like the concept, the quality, the features, ease of set up and take down, materials, etc... The price was the only killer for me.
