Bajataco build thread...where?

I noticed that Chris made a long overdue update to bajataco.com detailing ball joint and control arm installation. That made me want to revisit the bajataco build thread here. I searched to no avail. Anybody know where his build thread is? I want to know because I want to call for some updates.

The bajataco is one of the most influential rigs around here. His camper build inspired many copycats. His build philosophy, criteria and craftsmanship inspired many premium rig build ups, Taco or not.

I want to see how his rig has evolved. We know that he has gone with a RTT and the Garvin is/was up for sale. What other changes great or small have happened to the legendary bajataco? If anyone finds a build thread please bttt.

I think you'll find his build thread on 4WDTrips.net. Or it might just be a link to his site. I don't remember.

Thanks for the nice post :) I started building the truck in 1999, long before I belonged to any internet forums. Over six years ago, I started what ended up being a 52-page thread at www.4WDTrips.net that detailed the additions of the fridge, dual battery system, front locker, winch, laptop, and OBA relocation among other things. ExPo was born well after that thread was already underway, so I didn't see any reason to try and copy it all over here.

I've now had the pleasure of driving the truck for over 12 years and 150,000 miles and I still love it. It's been "finished" for the last three or four years and I'll say that it's been great to just enjoy it, using it for what it was built for, and not worrying so much about any more modifications. As was noted, I installed a roof tent, which I've been using for about a year and half. The Garvin Wilderness rack was removed (and is currently for sale) and the spare tire, jack, axe, and shovel now stow inside the camper. There are pros and cons to both setups, and I've been tempted at times to put the roof rack back on and sleep inside the camper again. I just completed a major front-end project replacing all of the arms, bushings, and ball joints, which is detailed in the tech section at bajataco.com. On a sad note, my old-style Engel fridge quit working on 12VDC mode and will only operate on 120VAC. They've discontinued the old style power supplies, so I've been ice-chesting it once again.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, just let me know.

Yep. Couldn't agree more.

Both Chris and Scott's Toyotas inspired the direction I took with my FJ, and that and the Journal got me interested in getting back out and camping again after taking a ten year break from it.

Baja Taco was how I found Overland Journal and the Expo portal. Thanks!:wings:

Yep, Bajataco got me lurking over at 4WDTRIPS around 2003 and eventually lurking here until I decided to come out of the shadows and join. His calm demeanor, intelligent and thoughtful approach has made him a true ambassador for the activity of overlanding.

Chris,
I'd like to see some more updates to your site. I do understand that takes time and effort. A few pictures of the rig with the windoors open so we can see the camper config in a thread on ExPo would satisfy us though.

Thanks again for all the nice comments :)

I've just added a couple new trip galleries to the site, and I will work on providing an update for the truck. I guess a 12 year, 150,000 mile review is in order. :smiley_drive:

I've browsed that site several times. Very well put together and some amazing photography that makes me want to quit my job, take out a home equity line of credit and head south of the border.
